We spent two nights in the Shepherds Hut in early April, we took breakfast both mornings and enjoyed the hot tub experience on our second evening which was amazing with the views and tranquility.
Mike and Ruth were really helpful, our breakfast on one of the days included warm pastries with homemade jam. The local area offers some lovely pubs to eat and drink in. The butchers arms and the White horse offered us gorgeous homecooked meals both evenings, and we enjoyed a spa day in nearby Appleby on the Tuesday, around a 15 minute drive away.
Whilst I slept very well and found the bed comfy unfortunately my husband found the wind on our first night too noisy for sleeping - nothing we could do about that!
The Herdwick lodge was lovely, spacious and cozy. There were plenty of kitchen supplies for 6 people to cook, though I would suggest bringing additional bin bags as we only had one. The hot tub and fireplace were straightforward to use. The showers did run out of hot water if 6 people showered consecutively but it replenished in about an hour so it was not an issue at all! The bathrooms were clean and well stocked with towels, small toiletries and toilet paper. The bedrooms were cute and the beds were super comfortable. There was a lovely view of the sheep and hills - I would definitely recommend the lodge!
