                        Recent Kenya Reviews

A tranquil haven and very good value for money

                        4 of 5
We were two friends staying for 10 nights in July on our first trip to Kenya. Flying from Nairobi to Ukunda airstrip, we were picked up and driven about 15 minutes to this wonderful villa. It's located in a very secluded spot yet still convenient with generally very little noise and surrounded by a plethora of plants and trees (more so now than the pictures suggest). Pros: Excellent value for money Great for a peaceful break Staff are very polite and helpful Spacious Convenient location for the beach, supermarket and restaurants The pool (be aware chlorine is used to clean it but it was well maintained) Security - we felt very safe at all times The BBQ - a must use with locally sold fish and prawns to your door Very easy to book a taxi or walk 5 mins to get a Tuk Tuk, which are MUCH cheaper Plenty of glasses, dishes and utensils to cook with but the oven/grill didn't work. The gas hob worked just fine. The villa was cleaned regularly by the staff Cons: Electricity often cut out for the first few days and the generator had to be used, which is very noisy. It improved later on in our stay Wifi not reliable especially with several people connected as it is shared by 2 villas in the compound (we planned all of our day trips at the villa so it was difficult to research them some days to work out what we wanted to do - better to buy a local sim and use data as back-up) Not a huge issue but very few basics are supplied (we had to buy bin bags, hand soap, washing up liquid and additional toilet paper). The Nakumat supermarket isn't far to buy these items and is on the way from the nearby airstrip or Mombasa. Tours/trips: Marco Polo agency is 5 mins away and recommended for safaris as we did an excellent overnight one in Tsavo East (highlight of the holiday). Day trips to Mombasa etc can be on the pricey side though. Overall, we had a lovely stay and I would recommend the villa to anyone and especially to those wishing to have privacy and generally a relaxing stay in Diani. . Silvio the owner was also very helpful and responsive to emails. Very much looking forward to returning in the near future.

                        Very good holidays too short!

                        4 of 5
The house and location is fantastic, pools excellent and overall stay good. Very close to the beach and nice restaurants, shops etc. I would definitely improve the kitchen utensils and the lower cupboards.

Wonderful Villa, Exceptional Staff, A Great African Adventure!!!!

                        5 of 5
Perfect vacation for a family seeking a real african experience. Diani Beach if gorgeous and the Kenyans could not have been more welcoming. You do need to be ready to embrace Africa, as this is not your prepackaged Disney version, it is the real thing. The only thing we missed was AC, but we learned to deal! The villa is lovely. We are a family of 6, and had a wonderful time in Villa Madagaskar. The staff is exceptional. Mr. Ali is a wonderful chef and you really should take him to the market with you to plan out your meals. Ernesta and Gumbo keep the place spotless and are very friendly, attentive and met our every need. Mr Trompell planned a wonderful set of adventures for us. We snorkeled off of Wasini Island with Pili Pipa which was a highlight of the trip. We took an overnight safari with DM Tours to Tsavo East, which was incredible and my only regret is that we did not stay two nights. The Drivers Mr Trompell uses are fantastic and you will learn to rely on Lawrence and his brother Ben. They are punctual and professional and knowing they would be where they said they would when they said they would gave us great piece of mind! The food in Diani is exceptional. The quality of the meals and the preparation exceeded our expectations. Get Mr Ali to roast some white snapper for you one night and I promise you will be delighted! The only downside to the trip is the beach boys. They are relentless, but friendly, so be ready to buy a key chain and get asked for your flip flops at the end of your stay. We started going to the beach at the 40 Thieves for lunch because they have Massai to keep the beach boys at bay and it is a lovely place to have a Tusker and delicious lunch. I mention this only for full disclosure and not to be a deterrent. Finally, for my American friends, If you want to be a hero, bring some Obama T-Shirts, pens, etc. There is no quicker way to make a friend in Kenya! I can't say enough about the total experience. Kenya is simply incredible and we are richer for having visited. I would encourage you to take the leap as well. You will be changed by the experience. The Chadwicks Arlington, VA USA
