We wanted to be somewhere warmer for February. I had seen Okinawa is mostly in the 60s (ºF – or 15 to 20ºC) in February even if it is the “rainy season” (which for us just meant mostly cloudy with some rain). We didn’t intend to travel much but just live there. We were happy to not need heat most of the time, but it is available as is AC. We enjoyed the washitsu (Japanese tatami room), beautiful kitchen and Japanese style bath so much, we want to return. In fact, the whole condo (was converted from a restaurant we were told) is so wonderfully designed and comfortable. The bed is comfortable and everything works well. There is no oven per se, but a small fish grill. They have a combination washer/dryer, too. We did a lot of cooking and found all we needed. The owners, Yoko and Marcel, are so responsive and helpful with suggestions. It is on the 6th floor (elevator opens at the front door), so there is a terrific view across the town and towards the harbor and even a distant view of the ocean. Be sure to bring house slippers and easily removed shoes, since it is a “no shoes” home (typically Japanese – BTW most of the restaurants there also require shoes off). It is best to have a car, but we didn’t want one. We managed using taxis and the buses. The nearest bus stops and large grocery store is about a kilometer walk, so we got lots of exercise. Once we learned the bus system, we did travel to the huge modern mall and to other towns on Okinawa (Naha, Motobu, etc.). We explored the many restaurants within easy walking distance, too. Most are Japanese only menus, so some knowledge is helpful. However, a few did have limited English menus or some photos of food. We already cannot wait to return.
