Invaluable tips for a perfect vacation in Jamaica with Dehaney Destinations

                                                5 of 5
First, the only downside--finding the house! The development is brand new, and very few locals know of it; follow these directions to find it easily. For Immigration, use this address: Drax Hall Country Club, 17 Pimento Road, St. Ann. To drive to the house, coming from Montego Bay on the A-1, turn left at the light across from Vista del Mar (there’s a car park lot on the left). This the light BEFORE the light to Scotchie's Jerk Centre. At the end of the road, enter the 2nd gates, on the right, NOT the 1st gates, on the left. In the traffic circle, go all the way around till Pimento, the last road, and it’s the 6th house on the right. Caple Williams is an authorized Montego Bay airport cabbie, tour guide and super nice guy, so you might want to ask for him at the airport. The rest is awesome! Renting a house is a great alternative: an entire house to yourself + a more authentic Jamaican experience. Definitely hire Marlene as your cook. She cooks delicious Jamaican food, is delightful & trustworthy & takes great pride in her work. So you can save a lot of money AND get an authentic culinary experience! She also cleans up & does laundry. Inside, the house is beautiful: nice front porch, lovely back veranda with table, sitting area, and full grill. Master BR has queen-sized bed & full bath, 2nd BR has queen, 3rd BR has 2 twins, all with VERY firm mattresses. There is a 2nd full bath. The electrical switches are oddly paired with their devices, but they work fine, & outlets are compatible with American devices. WiFi is iffy; good for movies, but not for gaming. Pool & tennis courts are good & very close-by. Fitness center disappointing--2 treadmills, 1 elliptical, 1 bike, & free weights + bench, which are all fine, but only overhead fans, no AC or TV, so hot & boring to work out (BYO entertainment). Adrian Sr. is very helpful--but get his correct phone #! You need to rent a car (if you can drive on the left!) or use cabs to get to supermarkets, Ocho Rios, clubs, nearby attractions. Don’t hesitate to negotiate the price, but remember that it will be more if driver waits for you. Want scuba? Garfield Diving Ctr in Ocho Rios is terrific. Just google them to find contact info. Great instructor (Collin) and got fully certified (4 open-water dives & all equipment)--great deal!

extremely clean and comfortable. unit was as described, and as depicted in pictures. Beds were comfortable, AC in both bedrooms. All amenniites were present, and in good working order. Community is quiet and secure. the owner and property manager Semani were very responsive. Would definitely stay again

                                                The Real Jamaica!

                                                5 of 5
After many years of traveling and living around the world before having kids, this was our first time traveling with the kids. They'd been on vacations before (i.e., Disney, all-inclusives, US vacation rentals, etc.), but this was the first time they'd travel like we used to--living like and with locals, visiting places off the beaten path, absorbing culture. Rose Apple Villa was the perfect home base for us and our trip was amazing! Our kids are 6 and 8. They loved exploring the beautiful property (my son became quite adept at climbing coconut trees...), visiting with the neighbor's pigs and bunnies, hanging out with the dogs, swimming in that massive pool! Even homework was more fun on the veranda with the fantastic view. We all fell in love with Jacquie and happily took advantage of the cooking option- she is an amazing cook! My son would take one bite of food, then run into the kitchen and hug her and tell her he loved her (which is saying a lot, because his biggest concern on this trip was "someone who couldn't cook as good as mom"). We had so much fun shopping for ingredients in the local specialty markets with her, the house was immaculate despite all the in and out we did, she did our laundry (!!) and she braided my daughter's hair so we didn't have to get it done in the market. I wish we had Jacquie at home! It was a real treat. Wayland was lovely and took care of everything we needed him to - we visited during a drought, so water deliveries were necessary (and satellite service calls because the water guys knocked the wires out). Everything was taken care of while we were out with only minor inconvenience. Kirk drove us not just to local places (i.e., grocery store, internet cafe, Chukka Adventures), but all over the island--to YS Falls, Alligator Pond (Little Ochie's is all it's cracked up to be!), Kingston, Port Antonio, even a local orphanage so we could visit and our kids could help out. He's a superb driver (those roads in the mountains are nuts!), has a killer reggae collection, answered all 10,000 questions we asked, his rates were totally reasonable and he's just a really nice guy. We sorta fell into going to Jamaica after a trip to Puerto Rico didn't work out and we all feel so lucky things ended up this way and that we found Rose Apple Villa. This was the perfect introduction to travel for our kids and we were both amazed with how much Jamaica had to offer those who wanted a true travel/culture experience as opposed to the resort stuff.
