Great stay at Antonio and Silvia's place.

5 of 5
We had a great stay at Antonio and Silvia's place. It's everything the photos portrait and more. It's very tranquil with an awesome view of the Tuscan country. Antonio and Silvia were great hosts. Always willing to help but never intrudes. You do need a car to get around but this is Tuscan country so that's expected. Highly recommended!

A most convenient and beautiful retreat

5 of 5
We stayed here for three nights during our stay in the Florence area. It was a perfect spot, very convenient to get into the city, and yet in the midst of the lovely countryside. Francesca was a wonderful host, meeting us on arrival and giving us terrific advice on locations to visit and restaurants. She recommended we visit Certaldo, only 30 minutes away, and we were so glad we went. She also recommended a terrific restaurant nearby (Ristorante Il Focolare) in the village, and it was memorable to say the least. Trust us...take her advice and get the steak! The apartment was roomy and beautiful. We had everything that we needed, and we simply loved the place. It is a gated hideaway with beautiful views. We just wished that we could have stayed longer. It is very comfortable, clean and quaint. It truly is larger than the pictures suggest. It has a gated entry, and we immediately felt like we were far away from the city. We enjoyed sitting outside under the canopy in the evening, as well as enyoying our morning coffee there looking at the expansive views. We drove into Scandicci and rode the T1 tram into Florence. The tram stop was less than 30 minutes away. We also enjoyed driving around the countryside tasting wine, and this is the perfect home base. (May I suggest Sant'Agnese Farm in Castellina in Chianti, which may very well be the highlight of our trip!) We absolutely recommend this house. We selected this spot strictly on the many positive reviews when we were planning, so I had to add mine to the list. You will not go wrong saying here. Thank you, Francesca, for allowing us to stay in your lovely apartment and for your hospitality. We can only hope to get to return again!

Beautiful property, great access to Florence & Chianti, good value

5 of 5
My wife and I hosted a group of friends for a week in early September, 2015 at Le Montanine. We have stayed at Le Montanine many times. Villa Poggio is a stately villa that sleeps up to 22. (Additional lodging is available in smaller houses on the property.) It stands on a hilltop with a 360 degree view of the rolling Tuscan landscape and the Apennine mountain range. In the villa and elsewhere on the property you'll discover beautiful views of Santa Maria di Fiore Cathedral and Brunelleschi's dome, Giotto's Bell Tower, and central Florence. The grounds are well-kept and the villa has two areas for outdoor gatherings. Our group preferred the more intimate setting on the side patio overlooking the lawn and pond. Another area, where meals may be taken, offers vistas over the vineyards, olive groves, and forests of Chianti with the Apennines in the distance. We also enjoyed the pool, which was sparkling clean with a view of Florence. We found the villa clean, the beds comfortable, and the bathrooms spacious with good water pressure and ample hot water. The linens and towels were clean and in good condition. Our group enjoyed preparing a few dinners in the large kitchen on the first floor. It is not modern but it is well equipped with everything we needed. The dining room is large and informal and opens onto a lovely garden. I recommend trying Le Montanine's wine, oil, vin Santo, and limoncello. Cristiana's son, Costa, and his wife Cherry and younger daughter Marta prepared a traditional Tuscan dinner for us one evening. They are warm and charming, and the meal was excellent and a bargain. Dining in also allowed us to stay at Poggio for an entire evening. As many wonderful attractions as Tuscany offers, we all agreed that our best times were when we spent evenings together at Le Montanine. It's not necessary to drive all the way into Florence to dine. Over the years, we've had many excellent meals in San Casciano In Val di Pesa, which is a vibrant Chianti town, only 15 minutes away from Le Montanine. San Casciano is very lively in the evenings with many young adults and sweet Italian teenagers laughing and chattering in the pizzerias, gelaterias, and in the pedestrian streets of the centro. Cristiana is a gracious host and works very hard to make her guests feel welcome and comfortable. We have returned to Le Montanine many times over the years and always recommend it to our friends visiting Tuscany.
