Beautiful historic home with gracious hosts!

4 of 5
The house is located about 10-15 min from the nearest town so do plan to rent a car.

Is there really such a place in this day and age?

5 of 5
Prodo is a wonderful, very small town up in the hills of Umbria not far (in distance) from Ovietto or Purergia- and only a ittle more than an hour train ride from Rome or Florence. BUT! It is a world apart from all the traffic and commotion of those big cities. The house was very peaceful, and comfortable, and the owners were very welcoming and helpful. BUT! It was the little village and the people who live there that made our trip the most unforgettable trip we've ever taken! Words can not describe the feeling of waking up to look out the window at beautiful rolling hills and freshly plowed black earth surrounded by trees just bearing their autumn colors, and hearing absolutely no noise- just peacefulness. Then walking 'two doors down' to the tiny cafe/bar where the owner made us delicious espresso and saved a crescent for us every morning. He came outside and set it down on a table that he would pull into the middle of the tiny village road under the morning sun, and we would watch as the villagers would come and buy an apple or a loaf of bread or a box of pasta- always stopping to say hello and happliy chatting about the village news. We were fortunate enough to be there on the day that 'Wild Boar Hunting Season' began. It was like watching a beautiful film as the hunters drove up to the village with their hunting dogs in tow. And all the villages gathered round to hear what had happened to them each day- and then try excitedly to repeat it to us. We were there for only 3 weeks, and we speak very little Italian, but we made some very good friends. (One, Angelo, even brought us his special pasta (twice), and stayed to have dinner with us! He even brought his sister one time, And it was absolutly wonderful!) Another time, a little boy, Ricardo. was visiting his 'Nonno,' and of course, they stopped at the cafe. Ricardo was 4, and he spoke no English, yet he sat and 'talked' to me for over a half hour! I could go on and on about the village and the people who lived there, but words could never convey the feeling that little Prodo left us with. I've been home now for a couple of weeks, and life here is just as chaotic as when we left. I try to find time each day to sit and close my eyes and go back to the peace and quiet of Prodo- if only in mind. I would recommend this house to anyone who wants to really relax and go back to a time when computers and phones weren't as important as everyday life with your neighbors and friends.

Beautiful house with a fantastic view

5 of 5
Casal Pontecuti is a beautiful old house with a fantastic view oft the umbrian hills and landscape. We have been there for four times and count the days for our next visit wait for the next visit! The house has three appartments of different sizes. The appartement „La terrazza“ (the biggest one) is very spacious with a huge fireplace in the livingroom, a table big enough to seat 0-12 people in the kitchen and two big bedrooms, one of those even with an extra bathroom. Mariella and Giuseppe (very friendly), keep the house and garden in excellent shape and when you have forgotten coffee, sugar or anyhing else, they are immediately there to help you and put things right. In the garden there is also a big fireside for barbeque or just to sit besides with good glass of wine in the evening. During day one relaxes at the poolside enjoying the beautiful view and taking a regular cooling splash in the water. Sunbeds and parasols are abundantly available. For the ones that that like to do some sports they can take a jog or play tabletennis or tablesoccer. Last but not least: for a coffee in between or the aperitivo before to dinner the nearest bar is in Pontecuti approx. 10 min walk. Conclusion: Go there, feel good and enjoy every moment!
