                      5 of 5
Great property in one of the best little mountain villages. The bedroom was large by European standards and the fold out couch in the second bedroom/living area was more than adequate for our 9 and 6 year olds. There was also a roll away single bed and travel crib available that we did not use. The small kitchenette was more than adequate for our family of four, but with so many amazing and inexpensive local restaurants I am not sure it is needed. Free and secure parking a short walk away. Great village to just walk around. Vittorio speaks excellent English and has a ton of information on the local area. We did day trips to both Matera and the wildlife mountain areas. Both were highlights of our trip and great family adventures.

                      Magical!

                      5 of 5
Him: Our time at the Casa del Mago was indeed magical. Pierfrancesco was much more like a wonderful host than a landlord, and we very much enjoyed our time with him and his family, as an added bonus. We would rate the CdM six stars instead of five if it weren’t for a handful of tiny things… and the fact that HomeAway won’t allow it. ;-) There were some issues with the modem, and Pf was all over it, trying to repair it twice before deciding to replace it with a new one. The “casa” itself was mega-cool, the kitchen workable, and the bed more comfortable than others on our trip. In fact, our time at the CdM and in and around Castelmezzano was our favorite of this trip. Great walking, hiking, and a so-cozy meal or two at the town restaurant. In November, when we were there, the town was quite quiet—we were the only obvious tourists there—just what the doctor ordered. We would definitely recommend the CdM to other travelers. Her: The home, village, and hosts made our visit fit perfectly with the aura of the Casa del Mago. The stars were so close that I felt as though I could reach out and touch a shooting star as we watched it go by. The paths smell of oregano as we tromped along and the house was perfectly real, from another time, and yet still very workable. Staying at the Casa del Mago was the highlight of our trip made even better by Pf, his genuine interest in making things work well, and his family for being so wonderful and welcoming. This is a stop that is definitely worth the time.
