South Iceland: Luxury Vacation Rentals (5)

An absolutely beautiful house in a region with stunning vistas. The location is very central to many of the most impressive natural sites in the southwest Iceland. Gullfoss and Geyser are close by, as is the Pingvellar national park. The location also permits a (long) same day return drive to the remarkable Vatnajökull glacier and its Jokulsarlon iceberg lake. Rakel & Martha are wonderful hosts - providing advice on where to shop before heading from Reykjavik and equipping the house with everything you could want. The house was beautifully laid out and spotless. We stayed for five nights. With two teenage children, the house provided a room for everyone with lots of space to relax. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

            Exceeded Every Expectation!!

            5 of 5
I was actually nervous about booking Nonnahus at first, because it seemed too good to be true. But WOW. The pictures are entirely accurate, it's beautiful inside and out. It's easy to get to, easy to find (the host emailed great directions!), easy to get into. It was immaculately clean, the kitchen is very well stocked (We cooked every night, and the kitchen had everything we needed, it even had coffee!) We had a small child with us, and the crib & highchair made our lives so much easier. The best part was the hot pot- quick and easy to fill, the view of two volcanoes and the river was gorgeous. We actually skipped a few sightseeing things just so we could spend more time soaking. The beds were comfortable- two of the rooms have bunk beds, and two have double beds. The view out the window of the bedroom at the end of the hall is amazing, try to claim that one for yourself. :-) The hosts are very easy to work with, very responsive to email, and one stopped by on our first day there to make sure we had gotten settled in. This was an entirely problem-free rental, and I would gladly stay here again!

            Simply Wonderful!!!

I cannot say enough good things about our stay at the cottage and its owner, Hrafn. My wife and I took a week-long trip to Iceland from the US and decided to rent this cottage as our home for the week. For our trip we rented a car and traveled to different points of Iceland each day. This cottage was an ideal location to do so. Our day trips included: 1) the Golden Circle; 2) Reykjavik; 3) Snæfellsnes peninsula; 4) Reykjanes peninsula; and 5) Vik and the Eyjafjallajokull glacier. This cottage is ideally located to travel to any and all of these for a day trip. As for the cottage itself, it is clean, modern and very comfortable. The modern amenities include everything you need for a very nice, comfortable stay. My wife and I debate whether the best part of the cottage was the hot tub or the memory foam mattresses. I have never slept better in my life than at this cottage thanks to the Tempur-Pedic mattress and that was a very nice surprise. Watching the Northern Nights from the hot tub was also a phenomenal experience. Hrafn, the owner, was also very helpful, responsive, and could not have been better -- from our very first contact with him in renting the cottage through our arrival home. We also rented a car for the week directly through Hrafn and that made our experience so much easier. We highly recommend this cottage to anyone. We stayed with a family of five, including a 3-yr old and a 14 yr old. This cottage is suited for a family of any size or ages (my older two kids loved the wifi as it allowed them to text their friends at night without international data charges). Thank you Hrafn!!!
