We weren't sure what to expect on our first trip to Iceland, but we happily found Hafnarfjordur to be absolutely delightful and Harbourfront to be cozy, quiet and pleasant. Our group -- Mom, dad, and three boys, ages 12, 12 and 9, all fit comfortably in the family room on the second floor. Sirry and her son, Sigmar, accommodated us by getting us into our room earlier than usual (thank you!) after our overnight flight from New York. The room, kitchen, bathrooms and showers were all clean, and we had an excellent three nights there, with everyone in the house being respectfully quiet. Sigmar was very helpful with recommendations, including the excellent Ásvallalaug swimming pool a very short drive away. The museum next door is adorable; the coffee shop directly across the street is terrific, with a welcoming hostess, and make sure not to miss a walk through little downtown Hafnarfjordur to the cute cafe Vort daglegt braud. Best of all was the Elf Park that Sirry clued us into. Do not miss it. It is a magical green space, and under the midnight sun we were out there playing with our kids at 11 p.m. We were also lucky enough to be in town for the annual Viking Festival nearby, which the kids absolutely loved (sword fighting, fire eating, story telling etc.). We would definitely recommend this place, especially if you're looking to save some money, do not mind not having a private bathroom/shower, and want a look at somewhere not as bustling as Reykjavik. So thank you, Sirry and Sigmar!
