          The cabin in the forest.

          5 of 5
We're delighted with the "cabin in the forest". We wanted a place that was "isolated" and this fits the bill. It sits, hidden away, on the main house's 5 acre lot and is packed with amenities. We made use of the kitchen, hot tub, washer/dryer and fast internet. Our goal was to find a cute little hideaway and this is it. The back of the cabin is up against the "woods". The cabin has a loft bed but our opinion is that the cabin is best for two. Caroline and Scott, the owners, made us feel welcome and we certainly will be back.

          Perfect cabin, location and host

          5 of 5
My husband and I spent 17 lovely days in Granma's cabin near Kona. This was our second visit to the island and preferred this location and home to our first VRBO south of Captain Cook. As we were arriving very late, we greatly appreciated Harry having purchased some wine, beer and cream for us - this allowed for a relaxing drink before bed and a good coffee on our first morning. The location is perfect - 15 min from Kona - close to two major highways to travel around the island, and 15 min to the beaches. The elevation is equally perfect - high enough to be cool in the evenings (18C or 65F) and warm during the day (27C and 81F) - and moist enough to support lush vegetation but not rainy. The lanai was exceptional - we dined each morning listening to the birds and looking down to the sea. The size of the lanai was such that you could seek sun or shade at most times of the day. No bugs to pester you. Beautiful trees and flowers adorned the property - cardinals, doves and many types of finches fed at Harry's feeder each day. Lovely Madagascar geckos visited each morning following breakfast. We cooked all our meals at the cabin - the kitchen was complete - we used the stove, oven, microwave, coffee grinder, coffee maker and gas barbecue. There was plenty of hot water and we appreciated the washer dryer off the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable - this was an important feature for me. The internet speed was fast - we both did some work each morning and the connections were excellent. The neighbourhood was quiet and we took evening walks before dusk. The Big Island Running company was a good source for running company and running route advice. There were lots of beach supplies as well - snorkels, fins, mask, chairs, umbrellas, boogey boards, water shoes and towels. Harry was an excellent host - close when needed and at the same time was respectful of our privacy. Harry was generous - providing delicious avocados, grapefruit, freshly squeezed lemon juice and macadamia nuts. Harry is also an award winning brewer and shared a number of his beer with us. Admittedly, I prefer dark beer - I was privileged to sample 3 different types of Harry's beer - and they were all exceptional - dark to light in colour - truly award winning. The cabin is welcoming and comfortable and would love to make a return visit.
