                  Best Thanksgiving Ever

                  5 of 5
I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to write this review--I guess I just wanted to hold the special memories of our time at Pakala Plantation Estate close for a bit longer. Our group of ten from Alabama, Maryland, New York, and Germany all agree that this trip to Kauai was so wonderful that it will be hard to find a better place to vacation ever again. I am originally from Oahu, but we chose Kauai as the place to celebrate our family Hawaii Thanksgiving trip mostly because of the opportunity to stay in this beautiful house at this stunning location. As a local girl, I learned about the Robinson family in school, so being able to spend time in a place owned by members a family with incredible Hawaiian history was something I could not pass up. The property itself is perfect. A lovingly tended homestead that captures the grace of Old Hawaii--acres of gardens surrounded by a lava rock wall that has been there for generations, oceanfront with Niihau in the distance-too spectacular for words. For some, the property might appear to be too far away from "the action," but it's not--it is perfect for day trips, then returning "home" to quiet seclusion-- if you can drag yourself off the front porch. We were amazed by the size of the house--five large bedrooms with their own baths (plus a bonus bedroom connected to the master suite), a large, fully stocked kitchen, butlers pantry, two utility rooms, outside half-bath, living, dining, and TV rooms. There was never a problem finding a quiet spot to read or nap. I was little concerned about having to cook thanksgiving dinner in a rental house kitchen, but it was no problem at all. In fact, I think the kitchen was better equipped than my own--two refrigerators, two ovens, tons of prep space with a separate place for clean-up, plus a kitchen table that seats six. For mealtimes, the huge extension table in the dining room comfortably seated all ten of us (plus guests a few times), complete with china and cut glassware. I could go on and on and on. Pakala felt like the Hawaii of my youth. Tom and I are so grateful for the opportunity to spend time creating memories with our family at such a wonderful place.
