My boyfriend and I stayed at Maria's Place in Oia, Santorini for 7 nights and it was by far the greatest experience we have had. This was our first time traveling to Europe and we were a little nervous at first. It is hard to trust reviews from websites with all the scam artists in the world. Anna and Kostas are NOT scam artists. They are truly wonderful people! They have answered my many questions thoroughly via email and provided detailed activities for us to do throughout our stay. When we arrived to Santorini airport, we were supposed to be picked up by Kostas; however, my flight landed much earlier than expected so we took a taxi for 35 euros. Anna's warm welcome when we arrived was lovely after our 11+ hour flight. After we checked into our room, Anna sat down with us and explained the entire island to us and showed us all the excursions we can do. I definitely recommend the Sunset Oia Catamaran tour for 95 euros per person! It includes food, alcoholic drinks, swimming/snorkeling at 2 beaches, as well as a stop to the Hot Springs (don't wear a white bathing suit if you plan on taking a mud bath). The room was extremely clean and comfortable. It had every kitchen appliance needed for our stay, and we went to the market down the road for a couple of items to keep in the fridge as well.
Maria's Place is a quite, remote location from the bustling center of Oia. The town is a 10 minute walk down the road, where there are plenty of shops, restaurants, and views of the beautiful white homes nestled into the cliff-side. Every picture taken can be put on a post card! Santorini does have public bus transportation; however, if you want the leisure of going out whenever you want, I would recommend renting a car. My boyfriend and I rented a 150cc ATV/Quad for the entire week from Panos (email@example.com) for 190 Euros. He was lovely to work with, answered my emails efficiently, as well as dropped off and picked up the ATV. In order to rent the ATV, you need an International Drivers permit (I got one from NY-DMV for $20). The only thing not included in the price was gas (we only spent 12 Euros on gas for the entire week)! I definitely recommend renting an ATV for the week. It gives you the opportunity to go anywhere on the island on your own time, and really experience the beauty of the island.
Check out Kamari, Vlychada, Perissa, Red/White Beach & seafood restaurants at the bottom of the 250 step trek to Ammoudi Bay. This place is a must stay!!
