From when we initially enquired about the apartment until the moment we gave the keys back after our stay, the owner was very helpful, easy to contact & really nice & friendly. The apartment was lovely, very big! There were only two of us and we had tons of space which was nice, but would easily have been fine for another two people as well & we didn't even use the second bedroom. The balcony is huge & perfect for watching the sunrise over the mountains if you're an early riser (as my partner is!) or for eating meals. We cooked quite a few meals in the kitchen, everything worked fine and there was plenty of pots, pans, plates etc. The place was very clean and tidy and nice to relax in after a long day on the beach! Lots of towels provided. Had an iron and board too.
The apartment is a 5 minute walk down the hill to the beaches (Varkiza & Yabanaki). I would recommend Yabanaki as it is bigger with more facilities and cheaper (6Eur weekdays) but prices increase at weekend (11Eur). Although we had a lovely dinner at Varkiza beach cafe. Supermarket & deli are both good, our meal at Zaxos was not good, but we did have nice ones at most other places nearby.
Vouglameni beach & town is only 10 min on E22 bus around the bay & definitely visit Lake Vouglameni (few stops before) natural spa (9Eur).
Small things: Washing machine wasn't working when we arrived but had only just broken down so just check if its fixed if you want to wash stuff. We couldn't find a plug anywhere for baths/washing up so improvised with a few large round stones we found in the bathroom, which worked just as well :-). TV works but is old & only shows Greek channels so if you want to watch films etc. there is a DVD player.
Bus to Athens is E22 which goes from down the hill just outside the 'Esplanade' cafe. You have to buy tickets from the kiosk across the road which sells beach bits and magazines (1.40Eur inc. metro). Takes about 45 min. Get off at last stop & get on Metro to Athens centre (Acropolis etc.) Bus to Sounion is the orange bus (no number) which you get from the stop opposite 'Esplanade'. It's a local Attica bus & you pay on the bus (5Eur ish each). Takes just over 1hr.
Generally the place was great & I would definitely recommend both the apartment and area. Good value for money & perfect for staying in a quite local town then traveling into the city. We had a lovely holiday and got engaged at Cape Sounio which was very romantic! Perhaps we'll go back for our anniversary!
