Location & Space

4 of 5
The property was in an excellent location, both for the sights in Bayeux and for visiting the WWII memorials. Plenty of room for five adults traveling together; everything you need for a comfortable stay is included. A couple of observations, for those of us who may be picky: there is no A/C which ordinarily should not be a problem in mid September. However, during our stay this region was experiencing its hottest Sept. in over 40 years. Our son reported the top floor as being oppressively hot. If you are hot natured or hormonal, or planning your stay in high summer, this is probably something you might wish to consider. Also, although there are lovely lace curtains on the bathroom windows directly behind the toilets and bathtub, there are no shades. Modesty was a problem, solved by attaching dish towels to the Windows using band aids and breathe-rite strips! The tile floor in the main bath is also extremely slippery when wet. If you have elderly travelers, you need to be hyper aware. We used extra towels to mop up every drop; still went sliding a couple of times even being diligent and careful. The owners were lovely and very helpful. Proud of their property and rightfully so. Although they spoke only French and we English, we managed to communicate just fine. I would definitely stay here again.

A great place for WWII history buffs.

My wife and I stayed here in April 2013. Even though this is a huge house, it is fine for just two people. You are in a part of history when you stay here. This house was a landmark on Omaha Beach on D-Day. Come in the off season and you will be able to walk Omaha Beach by yourself. The kitchen is very nice, and you will have no problem cooking meals here (there is only one small propane tank though, but they will get you another one if needed). The house is older (musty in spots), but it has a lot of character. You will also be able to listen to the ocean at night. I recommend hiring a private tour guide when exploring the beaches. There are plenty of tour guide ratings on Trip Advisor (Ed Robinson or Dale Booth are recommended). There are only a few restaurants withinin walking distance, so be prepared. Don't expect perfect furniture and professional decorating here. The draw is the history. You are part of it when staying here. Much like Gettysburg is sacred, Omaha Beach is sacred to Americans. Read some books about D-Day if you haven't read much about WWII. (There is a local contact here if there are problems. We had no hot water the first day, but it was fixed quickly.) This house is great for history buffs, not great for the person who wants the Four Seasons.
