The location was fantastic; it's hard to find a place these days with so much tranquility. Sitting by the river in the evenings, it was wonderful to not hear cars, boats, planes, people or a background hum. There is a house to the left with no trees in between, and I was concerned that we wouldn't have privacy, but the back of the house was very private and the people living there were very quiet.
The owner was fabulous to work with; she responded quickly to all questions and was very flexible. Her rental description was very detailed and let us know exactly what to expect; nothing misleading like so many I've seen. The main photo, however, is at least 10 years old, and we were a little concerned at first because it now looks more decrepit than the picture. But the inside is very comfortable and the downstairs outside fireplace is fabulous! S'mores every night.
I enjoyed kayaking this beautiful river, but even a small motor boat could not make it to/from the Gulf unless the tide is very high, so be aware. That makes for a lot less noise, though and this part of the river is much more private and natural than down by the marina and Gulf.
I took off one star because of the sulfur water. That's not unusual in "Old Florida"; we knew what to expect and came prepared with our own water for coffee and drinking, but sometimes the sulfur smell was a little overpowering. An aerator should easily fix that. We also found that the queen bed was more comfortable for a single person than two, but the owner has graciously agreed to correct that, so that we can come again. And we will come again as soon as we have a chance! What a great place this is.
