We absolutely love LGI ( Little Gasparilla Island ). This is our 2nd visit to the island and to Long Haul Cottage. Randy is very nice, the cottage has everything we need for our stay (except baking sheets) & is kept very clean. No frills, just basic and clean. We bring our 3 dogs & 2 children and there is plenty of room. This year, we left the kiddos with grandparents so we could have some adult time. We did bring our dogs. This cottage is less than 3 minutes from the dock and about 5 minutes to the beach. Makes unloading very easy. Suggestion -you do have to prepare your own meals...all of them...so we bring enough food for Saturday night, Sunday & Monday and take the water taxi back to the mainland on Tuesday and purchase for the rest of the week at Winn Dixie in Port Charlotte. We also do any other shopping and/or eat a meal out that day. We find it's much easier to manage all your luggage, food, dogs, kids, supplies etc if we don't bring so much food the first trip. Plus we gauge how much we actually eat. Water makes us hungrier. We also have coolers and use cold bags from grocery store to keep milk etc cold during trip from grocery store to cottage. Of course, you do pay water taxi an extra trip. Also, you have to take your garbage with you so we take whatever we have up to Tuesday. Marina charges $2.50 per bag to put in dumpster. We bring a couple 50 gallon ones to put all our smaller ones inside. Also, I promise you will spend the majority of your time in your bathing suit or pj's. You truly only need your suit, pj's and 1 or 2 pairs of shorts & tshirts. That's it. There is a washer and dryer in the shed. Bring your toiletries, charcoal & a flashlight, minimal clothing, food and your relaxation mode. It's very peaceful, beautiful and fun. The ocean is often as calm as a lake and warmer than bathwater. We see beautiful birds, dolphins, manatees, manterays & wildlife on this island. Keep your dogs leashed...lots of places to lose them in the tropical areas if they see something. We do let ours run free near the ocean. Just have your leash handy in case others have dogs. Remember, there is not a store, not a restaurant, not shopping, not anything here except friendly people and thousands of seashells. So, call or email Randy and reserve your version of Gilligans Island vacation today. If you can disconnect from "the city", you'll love it here. We're already trying to figure out when we can come back next year. Same island, same cottage.
