          Cross-cultural experience

          5 of 5
Our family (including 3 children ages 2, 4 & 6) enjoyed our four month cross-culture experience in Luperon. The house was fully supplied with appliances for cooking and living, hot showers and a steady supply of solar electricity. The beds were excellent as well. Our goals in coming to Luperon included learning quiet and simple living in a new culture, learning a new language, and connecting with village life and the people who live here. Thanks to the friendly neighbours and very helpful nature of the Dominican people, we reached many of our goals. Various services in the neighbourhood made our stay comfortable and integrated us with the community. Sisa cleans the house and gives lessons in the art of Dominican cooking. The supermarcado at the end of the dirt road (by the helicopter sign) was where we bought our regular supply of eggs, rice, milk, raisins, oatmeal, brown sugar, bananas, bread, and tomatoes. They also sell pampers, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, canned veggies, pasta, soda, chocolate bars and shoes etc. Joseph (the owner) offered free delivery for bottled drinking water. Marino, the vegetable delivery man, came several times a week with his pick up truck loaded with fresh vegetables and fruit (including carrots, potatoes, broccoli, celery, tomatoes, red and yellow peppers, watermelon, oranges, mangos, etc.). The delightfully friendly and careful motoconcho (motorcycle taxi) drivers gave our family rides to and from Luperon; if we knew the name of a place we wanted to go, they knew the way. Friendly and helpful neighbours along the dirt road to Luperon hills helped us learn the language and told us where we could go to find the things we needed. Nino, a taxi driver, is fluent in English, and arranged many of our other taxi drivers for us. Louisa is a blind masseuse in Luperon who gives excellent massages for about 12 USD an hour. The D' La France restaurant where we went for our weekly pizza is excellent. The Puerto Blanca Marina is where we where we borrowed English books to read (a lending library) and made connections for a boat ride around the harbour with Tom on Chug-A-Lug. Casa Blanca restaurant on a hill overlooks the marina and provides a great view of the harbor. The location of Danielle's house allows for quiet and tranquillity, while providing easy access to transportation into town. We also used Danielle’s bikes and our children enjoyed playing on the ping pong and foosball tables in the garage.

          Absolutely Perfect

          5 of 5
This was our second time staying in this amazing house. The first time was in 2013 and our first visit to the D.R. We really enjoyed our first visit, but the second time was epic. We arrived late, as our flight to Punta Cana was delayed. I called the owner to tell him, and he arranged to have Nanci, the housekeeper stay late to greet us. Nanci welcomed us warmly and remembered us from our first visit. We got settled and went to dinner. Upon our return to this beautiful house we adjourned to the upstairs TV room with awesome air conditioning. Eventually we went down to bed I the air conditioned master suite. The next morning we rose and took an exhilarating shower in the adjacent bedroom which has a sliding door that allows you an outdoor shower experience. We prepared a simple breakfast in the professional kitchen and the enjoyed the infinity pool for a couple of hours. Our daily routine consisted of this, plus a trip into town for lunch, followed by more time at the pool, the a trip to Lindo for beer and back to the house. The gated community is awesome, the private beach is so relaxing, and Nanci the housekeeper is fantastic. This house has become my wife and I's favorite vacation spot and we hope to return year after year! A truly amazing property.
