Cute, clean cottage with one problem

We had a very nice time here! Playa Guiones is the place to rent if you're looking for a good social scene with restaurants, activities etc. but that's not why we came to Costa Rica. Playa Pelada is very peaceful and a nice fit for older folks who are looking to get away. Though the beach is a short drive away there are no toys, boogie boards, etc. at the house so families with young kids might want to keep that in mind. But on the plus side, this helps keep the house clean! Though we had a wonderful time, I would have be reluctant to return until one issue is fixed. Because crime (mostly theft and burglary) is an issue, it's no surprise that there are bars on the windows and the doors. Unfortunately, there is no mechanism to release them from the inside in case of fire (required where we live), you need a key to open the front door from the inside, and back door is blocked by a gate that is padlocked shut. To make matters worse, there are no smoke detectors installed. I found this worrisome. Were this issue resolved, I would be delighted to rent Casa Tranquila again. It's really a nice spot.
