We had a wonderful stay at the Captains House over the MLK weekend this month. Sue, the owner, was very friendly and accommodating - made us feel right at home. The house and the entire property are awesome (as is, really, all of Middle Haddam - which is a charming historic village...) One could sit endlessly on the comfy sofa, with the cozy fire ablaze, looking out the huge picture window at the beautiful Connecticut River. The house is nicely decorated - beautiful and tasteful (and, so clean!) The lights strung on the porch, the flowers/vases placed in various locations throughout the house, the jazz music playing in the background, the coffee that Sue ground specially for us: all helped us feel welcome and set the tone for a special weekend. The kitchen is well-stocked with dishes, pans, utensils, and appliances - enough for groups of 12 or more. And, if you should need them, Sue keeps many 'basic' cooking ingredients in the cupboards. When my family has rented houses in the past, we've typically found that one or two of the bedrooms are 'sub-par'. This is not the case at the Captains House - all the bedrooms/rooms (and bathrooms) are great. Our weekend at the Captains House ranks right 'up there' in terms of positive family get-away experiences. Met all of our expectations - and then some!
