                              Charm and Location, Location, Location!

                              5 of 5
Casa San Roque is unique: both fun and historical. Talk about “Location, location, location!” You are right in the heart of everything in beautiful and historic Guanajuato. From the rooftop terrace, and from the three 3rd floor living room windows, the views are magnificent. The house is located right next door to the San Roque church, and you can see the La Pipila statue on the hill, the University of Guanajuato, the famous Hidalgo Market, and the revolutionarily historic Alhondigas de Granitas, to name a few, from these incredible windows. All of these places, in addition to the main Basilica and the Jardin de la Union, are a short walk from the house. And every night we were serenaded by groups of wandering minstrels in historic costumes with lutes and guitars, singing favorites such as De Colores and La Bomba. It was magical! Before our trip, I spoke to one of the owners, Meta Hunt, on the phone and she is very friendly and a wealth of information. She also sent us information on Guanajuato and the house in advance of our stay. Nancy, the House Manager, met us on arrival and was delightful, and very helpful, and is only a phone call away. They, and now we, also highly recommend Israel Torres for all your driving needs; he is bilingual, reliable, and a terrific tour guide. He took us door-to-door from our casa in San Miguel de Allende to the Guanajuato Casa San Roque. But book him in advance if possible. His email is israelt2007@hotmail.com. There is a dumbwaiter to help with moving luggage and groceries to the two 2nd floor bedrooms and the 3rd floor’s well equipped kitchen/living room. There are 3½ flights of stairs in the house from the ground floor to the rooftop terrace, but there is a good handrail and of course the dumbwaiter. The house is full of Mexican and other folk art, and is charming, from the amazing brass frog’s on the front door (Guanajuato means ‘Place of the Frogs’), to the delightful miniature furniture in the kitchen and elsewhere. There is plenty of tourist information, and beautiful books on Mexican art. There is so much to see and do in Guanajuato that we were sorry we were only there for 4 short days! We really enjoyed breakfast and lunch at Casa Valadez on the Jardin de la Union, right across from the Teatro Juarez. Don’t miss the view from La Pipila, or the Quixote Museum! We highly recommend Casa San Roque! Thanks Meta, Marsha, Nancy and Israel for a memorable stay.

Beautiful house in an excellent location

We really enjoyed our stay in San Miguel and this home. The house is beautiful and very well maintained. The roof deck with its views was a nice place to relax at the end of the day. The beds were comfortable, and there was more than ample space for four. We were able to walk everywhere easily, with the centre of town just 5-7 minutes away. A grocery store is around the corner, along with many other shops. A new restaurant/cafe with outdoor seating is across the street (with great, inexpensive breakfasts!). This house is downtown, so there is typical city noise.

Great secure location & easy walk to El Jardin

                              5 of 5
We stayed in this town house for 3.5 months this year while Gordon travelled the world. The house is delightful, very comfortable and artfully decorated. Agripina comes 3 days a week to keep it clean and organized and the complex property manager, Anselmo, is always around if you need any assistance. There are 3 patios - one on the ground level off the living room, one on the 3rd floor and a great rooftop patio with comfortable lounge furniture and views of the hillside. There are extra electric heaters to supplement the gas fireplaces when the weather is cold, but we rarely needed to use them. The kitchen is well-supplied for those that like to cook and the cable provider offers many, many channels (Canadians can watch all their favourite programs and keep up with the news at home on Shaw) The Rosewood Hotel across the street provides free entertainment to us from it's Luna rooftop patio and lively wedding celebrations on the weekends. The Rosewood has a daily program for use of the pool and fitness center with a minimum spend of just over 400pesos. This is an excellent location with access to many restaurants on the Ancha and just a short, easy walk to the Instituto Allende and Parque Juarez. The shortcut to the Jardin is out the back entrance on Tenerias. Gordon is very charming and easy to deal with. We would stay here again if Gordon would take another extended vacation in the winter.
