Positives: beautiful home in an amazing location, fabulous views, comfortable and well stocked with everything needed for a relaxing get-a-way, the house was nicer than we expected it to be, comfortable beds and an overall homey feeling, ping pong table in the garage and a couple of bikes - the perfect place to de-stress for a few days
Negatives: tiny ants all over the kitchen, beautiful views but no ocean access - very dangerous shore, not a little kid-friendly home - avoid bringing children under 10 as there is not much they can do (and there are a lot of breakable things about), no window coverings in the master bedroom which wouldn't be a problem except that there is a neighbor with a view into the window who seems to enjoy it
To get to the house, you have to drive down a very windy, steep mountain road. The local drivers have no patience for visitors and drive dangerously fast. There are three wrecked cars along the road that have been left (presumably) as reminders of the dangers of speeding in this area. There are also a couple of crosses on the side of the road. Make sure to use low gear so that you don't lose your breaks. Bring all the groceries and supplies you'll need as there is no grocery store close by - it's about a 40 minute drive to the nearest town. Laundry soap is provided. Some basic baking supplies are provided - spices, sugar, and a few others. I've never seen so many hitchhikers in one area before - they are everywhere along the redwood highway and several of them were camping on the black sand beach. This left us with an uneasy feeling and was unexpected. The manager was very accommodating and the home is well cared for. Bring a good book and sit on the deck all day enjoying the view and the sound of the ocean. We saw whales spouting in the distance. Surprisingly, there weren't many birds or other animals. We did see a huge starfish clinging to a rock. I hope to return some day for another relaxing stay.
