Bethany Place was a great place to spend a week relaxing near Lassen National Park. It was just a 10 minute drive from the park, but also walkable and bike able to Lake McCumber (a reservoir that we played and swam in) and the Lake McCumber campsite where we spent an evening BBQing near the lake. The cabin was very well equipped with everything you'd need, including blender, bowl mixer, griddle, step stool, booster seat for a toddler, etc. The game room was a fabulous place for the 4 children as well as the adults to hang out in after a day of hiking or swimming outdoors. In addition to the game tables, there were toys and a play kitchen plus food for my 3 year old to play with! There were about 10-12 bikes of all sizes, including a 16" bike with training wheels that was PERFECT for my 3 year old, so the children enjoyed riding up and down the long driveway as well as on longer bike rides with us to Lake McCumber and beyond. I noticed that the garage also had 2 large ice-boxes/coolers plus snow-play gear (disk sleds and snow-shoes). There was flour, sugar and coffee in the kitchen. Honestly, it was the best equipped cabin/house we've ever rented! The Randazzos seem to have thought of most things that they can in order to facilitate a relaxing time for their tenants. There was a gas grill, as well as a stone fire-ring. Marshmallow roasting sticks hung on the back porch wall. I do wish there had been a grill or rack of some sort that we could have used to BBQ over the fire in the ring, but I mentioned it to Victor Randazzo and I believe he was going to look into getting one. However, we did our fire BBQing over the fire pits at the Lake McCumber campsite and enjoyed a lakeside dinner picnic one night instead.
The Randazzos meet you at the cabin to provide the keys and show you around personally which we thought was a nice touch! They live just a few minutes away and are immediately available should something go wrong.
We did wish that the mattresses in the rooms were firmer as they were too soft for us, so eventually I think they will need to replace those mattresses. The only other con was that the cabin does not receive much natural light so you have to have the lights on inside, even during the day. However, this is because it's surrounded by tall trees, which makes for a lovely setting for the property, and gives you lots of shade during what could otherwise be a very hot summer.
Bottom line: I'd highly recommend this place!
