My family of 4, including 2 older teenage children spent a week at the Cowshed Cottage. It was fantastic! The house layout was even better than expected from pictures. All 3 bedrooms (suites really) are separate from each other. One bedroom was off the livingroom area, one off the kitchen area and one upstairs. Great for having teens who don't want to be too close to you and vice versa. It would also work great for 3 couples. There was a ton of storage space and closet room as well as a safe. There was a landline which I didn't expect but was very practical and the WIFI worked great. The kitchen had everything we needed. Having a dishwasher was a great perk. There was lots of towels, a wash machine and dryer and even a clothes line outside so we didn't clutter up the railings with our wet stuff. A lot of care and thought went into details. There was even food in the fridge for breakfast when we arrived including some wonderful local grapefruit marmalade. The whole home was decorated beautifully, and we loved the back verandah, with the comfy seating area, dining table and jacuzzi. The shared swimming pool was located directly out the front door. The views of the fields and hills were beautiful and we loved being having the horses in the pastures around us. We even saw a troupe of monkeys going across the field one day. Being on Bromefield Plantation magical. The property is beautifully landscaped and maintained. Lush flowering shrubs were everywhere. My teens loved the animals! One evening we had the chance to see a baby foal take its first steps! What a thrill for us all! The people that work at Bromefield plantation were very friendly and helpful. Peter and Kerry in particular. Our rental car wouldn't start the first morning, and we had a snorkel excursion booked. Peter, contacted the rental company for us, and made arrangements for them to come in quick time with a new battery. He also included us the night the foal was born, when I'm sure he was busy enough with the mama and baby. Kerry was also fantastic. He took us on a tour of the plantation and checked on us everyday and see how things were going. Mary-Ann, the owner was a pleasure to communicate with. Thank you for sharing your property with us!

                            Perfect Beach, Quiet and Relaxing

                            5 of 5
We have done VRBOs both abroad and in the states for many years and have learned that it is about doing research and having the right expectations. The negative review below was posted shortly before we were to arrive at our rental and needless to say, it made us a tad nervous. Overall, this rental worked perfect for us and it was the beach and water in front of the house and the friendly locals that made it perfect. We swam and snorkeled twice a day everyday and enjoyed greeting and chatting with the locals that showed up every morning and evening to do the same. Besides us, there were no more than 2 or 3 other people on the beach and often we were the only ones. The water is clear and clean with a sandy bottom and we saw great fish and even turtles while snorkeling. The house is simple with no frills and we ended up enjoying the simpleness of it all. Everything in the house worked and worked well and we were never in need of anything. We cooked about half of our meals at the house and found all the kitchen supplies that we needed. The air conditioners in the bedrooms worked well for cooling and drying the air for sleeping. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of sheets and towels. The house does need some exterior painting and maintenance, but it did not detract from our experience. After each day of touring around the island, we were always looking forward to coming back to our place to swim and chill. We would recommend renting a car as it is fun to travel all over the island seeing different sites and areas. It also makes it a bit easier for groceries. During our stay, the beaches down by Bridgetown and the Crane were filled with seaweed and the water had sea lice (stinging larva of jellyfish) which made us appreciate our beach even more! If you want luxury accommodations or enjoy being with other tourists, this probably isn't the place for you. If you want to experience the real Barbados from a more local perspective, this is a great rental.
