                  Long Island: Cottage Rentals (8)

                  SUPERB

                  5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Passionate Pelican and were scheming about when to plan a return trip while waiting to fly out. The hosts are very attentive and are sensitive to guest privacy. Beach: where do you start? There are so many choices. If we could attach pictures to our review we wouldn't have to type. Our favorite were the small islands directly in front of the house. We went north to Cape Santa Maria and Stella Maris. The beach at Cape Santa Maria was pretty but really not that long for walking. The water was spectacular but not as clear and incredibly beautiful as the Atlantic side of the island. Deans blue hole was pretty cool and we had it all to ourselves, but then again we kind of had everything to ourselves because there are so few people. When we go back we would visit Gordon's beach again but probably not make the drive to go up north. We kayaked so much to the islands in front of the property and we never tired of it. Beachcombing was superb on all sides of the islands out front and Gordon's was really good for beachcombing also. Property: there is no finer view. Nothing compares to lifting your head up in the morning and looking out to the beautiful view. The layout is perfect and open and the balcony is ample and very comfortable. The deck is great down by the water with its own spectacular view. Restaurants: we ate breakfast and dinner at the house each day and only went out for lunch. Our favorite was the closest, the flying fish marina / outer edge grill. We tried rowdy boys once but it was quite greasy and obviously not fresh. Max's Conch bar was very good. We purchased 10 lobster tail and 10 fish fillet at the Fishhouse behind the sea winds grocery in Petty. We grilled out using the small Weber Grill each night, it was fantastic. We did not enjoy the lunch at the Cape Santa Maria restaurant. Hillside grocery In Salt Pond is a definite if you're staying a week or more. Very well stocked. Dogs: we are dog lovers. Many a vacation has been marred by feral dogs in bad shape. Not on Long Island. A beautiful pot cake that we named Sally stopped by for breakfast and dinner every day and is possibly the sweetest dog ever. So polite, she never came inside but merely waited at the door! If there would've been a mechanism to bring her home we would have. Nancy is a very attentive property manager. She was excellent in assuring that we had everything we needed. Aloha!

Amazing property that exceeded our expectations

                  5 of 5
Can't say enough about our wonderful stay at Bay Watch Cottage. The property was everything we could have hoped for and more. Lovely interior and décor, all the necessary amenities and a knockout view of the bay and the privacy of our own little cove and dock to watch sunsets, have morning coffee and swim from. Owners were welcoming and wonderful and nearby for assistance if needed, was terrific for all info about the island. Property is really nicely located very near a well-stocked market that had pretty much everything you needed, a convenient liquor store, gas station nearby and a farmer's market on Saturday mornings. Also, the location on the property is in the middle of the island so it was easy to get to the North part of the island as well as head South. Great restaurant about 5 miles from the cottage in Chez Pierre. Cross between French, Italian and a dash of Caribbean thrown in. You HAVE to make reservations and Don't show up late (or too early). Cape Santa Maria resort was also a nice stop for a meal and we were able to use the beach there as well. Gorgeous beach, stunning with warm, amazing blue water and sand that feels like baby powder on your toes. Dean's Blue Hole is a must see. Great place for snorkeling, especially around the perimeter of the blue hole where the ledge is. The island is an outer island so it is remote and doesn't have a real center, but if you are in the mode of adventure, beautiful seascapes, secluded beaches that you can have all to yourself, wonderful snorkeling, and a lot of rest and relaxing, this property and island is the right fit. But most of all, the people of Long Island are truly wonderful, gracious and genuine people. The island is safe, welcoming and everyone is friendly and helpful. Have been to many other islands where the islanders are nice to you to your face, but then you get the feeling they are talking about you behind your back. Not the case on Long Island. Never a worry for safety and again, the people were lovely--with no exceptions. Lastly, don't forget to bring your bug spray. You will need it for sure!

                  Private Pilots' Paradise

                  5 of 5
The Bahamas are renown to be among private pilots’ favorite, island-hoping destinations. And if your goal is to fly away from the more touristic spots don’t look any further than Greg Lambert’s home on Rum Cay! We made a last minute trip in mid-August to The Bahamas from South Florida with a 172 looking for some peace and quiet in the out islands. We were very lucky to find Mr. Lambert’s home in Rum Cay. Not only did Mr. Lambert’s answered our query within the hour but he also offered us an AOPA discount. Mr. Lambert’s home is a dream cottage fully furnished that leads to a pristine private beach. The scenery is spectacular during the day with the clear and turquoise waters and fine white sand, while at nighttime stars litter the sky. We spent two nights on this paradise island wishing for a longer stay. Rum Cay was badly hit by Hurricane Joaquin in 2015 yet the island is rebuilding strong and hasn’t lost any of its charm. Fella, the home caretaker came to pick us up at the airport and helped us settle in Mr. Lambert’s home. Fella was a lovely and friendly character—just like all of the people we met on the island—and took us on a tour punctuated with fun and interesting facts about the island. While there, make sure to visit the Sand Bar for a fresh drink and home made conch fritters. We certainly can’t wait to make our way back to Mr. Lambert’s in Rum Cay!
