Casa Marina is a delightful home - elegant and comfortable. The owner is easy to work with and very helpful and kind. The staff is helpful and friendly. The house is located right on the water. Depending on the weather and tide, there is a lovely little beach just steps from the back of the house. It is somewhat isolated but close enough to get anywhere on the island in a matter of minutes. Our family has celebrated NYE (our wedding anniversary) at this lovely property for the past two years and we are going back again this year. Don't miss going to church with Circle and Elorn, the Tamboo Club on NYE, bone fishing with Percy, charter fishing with Joe, and especially a boat trip with Kenny who spears fish and lobster, dives for conch and cooks it all up on a deserted beach where you eat the finest lobster with your hands, fresh out of the water. We come from Texas and Massachusetts and meet up in Nassau for a couple of days to enjoy the Christmas Junkanoo and stock up on groceries. Then we hop on LE Air for the 20 minute flight to GHC and a couple of weeks of family time. Isabel has a well-stocked kitchen including an icemaker which came in handy for frozen drinks to sip on the spectacular wraparound porch. When we arrived last year, the lights were out due to a generator being out on the island so no one had power but the caretaker was kind and welcomed us with lanterns and candles which just added to the atmosphere. There is absolutely nothing that you could want that the resourceful, helpful locals won't deliver right to your door. Everyone knows everyone and you feel entirely safe sleeping with the doors unlocked. Our local friends drop by for coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening, and we sit on the porch and watch the dolphins and the occasional shark in the distance as the ships pass by in a steady parade. Kenny is a fabulous tour guide and he will take you out for the day in his boat or you can rent a boat and he will be your tour director. He knows the water and weather and has friends on all the surrounding cays who welcomed us with open arms at every stop. Most of our days were spent on the water. We would plan our day each morning and Kenny would make all the necessary arrangements and then he would cook our catch for us in the evening. On our last day, he even prepared and packaged lobster to freeze and take home with us. Can't wait to get back there again to see our friends and enjoy the peace of GHC.
