                      Journey of a Lifetime

                      5 of 5
South Andros is a very special place. This is not your tourist-packed Caribbean vacation. Getting there was half the adventure! Everyone is laid back and nice. Jerry and his staff (Wendy, Germaine) were most helpful and were extremely responsive to anything you can think of. Not enough space here to write how incredible this place is. It is the real deal for the adventure seeker and DIY'ers. Truly disconnected and pure. A rare find About the House: 2 Bedrooms with two twins each (or a king each if requested) with a shared shower and separate commode/vanities. Air conditioning units in each room so keep those doors closed from the main house. The main house has two sliders with screens so you can catch the breeze inside and out all day. We brought our own hammocks (Eno's) and hung them on the upper porch. Slept outside a couple of the nights too. The kitchen is equipped and there is an outdoor grill as well. The yard is awesome. Well landscaped for bocce (provided) and throwing back some cold ones while grilling up your catch. You'll spend 75% of your time outside. Bring your book for the rainy days or just in the Hammock. Two ocean kayaks are provided to hit the patch reefs or a nice paddle out to the main reef (0.6 miles out). Needs to be extremely calm to get out there. About South Andros: Everyone is extremely friendly and everyone knows everyone. When you get into town everyone will know you and where you're staying before you get there. They are all so accomodating. The locals would deliver us their homemade cocktails every couple of days (Coconut milk, evaporated milk and Gin) in a gallon jug. Germaine (Manager) lives up the road and will make sure you're taken care of. He had Steve (fishing guide we used twice) stop by with a freshly butchered pig and we got some of the best ribs i've ever had. What to do: It took us a few days to figure out that you can walk the flat in front of the house and catch bonefish on the fly daily. The fish move relative to tides. We figured that it is best with about 3 hours to high tide and about two hours after high tide. Walk the beach to the right until you get to the old pier than wade in and fish back to the house looking for the shadows of the bones. Use all pink or brown shrimp patterns and you'll at least have a shot at one. WALK VERY SLOW. We landed a nice 5lb'er right in front of the house. Go spearfishing with Steve. Ask Germaine for his number. He put us on some big fish and lobsters.
