Theo and Erna were perfect hosts....they met us at the airport and showed us spots to visit, eat, and grocery shop along the way back to the rental property (approximately 30 minutes from the airport). The bungalow is located right on the water and is a very short walk/drive to Rodgers Beach and Baby Beach. It was very clean and spacious and was perfect for my wife and I and our young adult children. The kitchen was small, but well stocked and served its purpose. Our daughters stayed in the detached studio off the kitchen and it worked out great....gave them their own space. Another perk about the studio is that it had a nice new bathroom!
I think the best part of this property was the large private outdoor living space with beautiful views. There were plenty of areas to lounge (hammocks, patio furniture, dining tables). We spent a lot of time out there in the evenings watching the sun go down and playing with a friendly neighbor cat that we became attached to. We did not swim off the dock because it was generally very windy. However, my daughter did take one of the kayaks out that Theo and Erna had in the garage. Just so you are not surprised, there is an oil refinery that is located on this end of the island that is partially visible but after a day or two you don't even notice it.
We snorkeled every day we were in Aruba and visited 6-7 different beaches. Mangel Halto is a beach used by the locals that is about 20 minutes away. It's a hidden snorkeling spot that many vacationers do not visit, but provided a great variety of unique fish to see if you research and get out to the reef area (which is a little difficult to get out to)
If you want to be away from the tourist areas, this is the place to stay! You'll want to rent a car if you want to venture to other beaches besides Rodgers and Baby. We rented Theo and Erna's jeep for the week and it worked well for us. Arashi Beach was our favorite swimming beach which was located at the other end of the island. Malmok and Boca Catalina were also very good for snorkeling.
Thanks again Theo and Erna for the wonderful accommodations.
