The location could not be better. On the Dike, in the center of the Zoute, view from Zeebruge to Holland.
The living room is very comfortable. WiFi works well. The kitchen and bath areas have been updated.
The linens are minimal. Sheets are usually not provided. There were no hand/face towels to be used in the WC and bathrooms.
Cleanliness is definitely an issue throughout.
I have given this property 4 stars because of its location and the fact that we felt quite comfortable in the living room.
Great place to stay! Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted by the host, Caroline. She even have some snacks on the dining table and a couple of bottles of local popular beer in the fridge for us to try. She took me on a tour around the farm. The cows were being milked at that time which I enjoyed watching. I think there are about 3-hundred cows in the farm. There are also a handful of ponies which she said the kids can ride if they want. The house is spacious and tastefully decorated. The gardens are a work of art and the private patio/garden is an added bonus.
The location of the apartment made it easy to get to the places we wanted to visit. From Luxembourg, we spent a day in Brussels before arriving to the property. We visited the House of European History and Parlamentarium. Both are free of charge and very much worth visiting. There is also a free walking tour available that starts in front of the city hall (just google: free walking tour Brussels). The property is about an hour and a half drive from Brussels. We were there on a Sunday, so traffic was very light. I suggest not driving in the city unless it's a weekend. Just park the car in one of the many parking garages and use public transportation or walk. The next day, we had a free walking tour in Bruges that started at 10:00AM. Bruges is only about a 22-minute drive from the house. We parked along the road close to the town square and it cost 9 euros for 4-hours. After 4-hours you have to pay for additional hours you need, but there's no need to repark your car. Later, we found out that we could have parked at the train station for about 3.50 euros/24-hours. After the walking tour, we went to a few museums. In Bruges, museums close at 5pm and most of them are closed on Mondays. Having visited both cities, we felt we should have spent 2-full days in Bruges and 2-full days in Brussels. From Bruges, you can also take a train to the neighboring towns: Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, ... etc. The following day, we drove to Dunkirk which is only an hour away.
Caroline was very accommodating, but not intrusive. The house, the yards, the surrounding farms have a very serene calming feel. We only stayed for 3-nights and we really enjoyed our stay, but wish we stayed for at least 7 days. If we are able to have time to go back to the area we will definitely book to stay in one of Caroline's apartments again.
