  • Beautiful peaceful home that will be in our dreams for a long time.

The setting of this house is idyllic...magical actually. The house itself was also such a wonderful experience . The kitchen was perfectly equipped for cooking meals. Fresh local farm eggs were waiting along with tea, sugar and spices. The home was spacious. Though there was just 2 of us, a group would still feel there was much space and openness with plenty of room including 2 living areas. The upstairs living area is where it is at. You can see off in the distance to the island of Little Bernera and may have a chance of eagles soaring by. We did. There were issues with being unable to shower as the shower did not have hot water no matter how hard we tried. The mix of hot and cold water is way off even if turned all the way hot. It was baths only, which was hard for washing hair. Hopefully, there is a fix for that for future guests. I am biased a bit because of my husband’s ancestors being exactly from this community of Croir just up the road, from the late 1700’s to the mid 1800’s and you can see them written about in the book of information provided for the house. I tried to write this review independent of the emotions of being exactly in our ancestral homeland but to say it was emotional to be in the place of ancestors is an understatement of how we felt. It’s a special, peaceful place with much history.

  • Helair is a beautiful place to stay.

Helair is a beautiful place to stay. When we left the cottage each morning we were greeted by skylarks singing and a cuckoo calling. The view was stunning. Lovely to watch the fishing boat in the evening take its tour around the bay. The facilities were great. Owners had thought of everything we might need and more, including a lovely vase of flowers, smoked salmon, fresh eggs, locally made biscuits and a bottle of wine. Great base for seeing the standing stones, Harris tweed weaving and stunning sandy beaches with seabirds nesting in the cliffs nearby. We would recommend a trip to Port Ness. Lovely welcome from Owners. If wanting to go on a sea trip to spot dolphins, I would suggest you book before leaving home as they were all booked up by the time we arrived.
