The house is on a quiet street with a bakery, post office and general merchandise/food in easy walking distance. The trip on the little "bac" over to the old town was always a pleasure. Martine was there to help us in the first day to restart the central heating and the wifi connection. With bad weather for much of our vacation, we found the house comfortable. The appointments were complete with the slight exception of a dryer, but the house overall was spacious. We had a good relationship with the owners as well as Martine.
We commented to the owners about not supplying towels and linen, which, it would seem, would exclude possible visitors who did not travel by car. We found that our roof box was full when you added all the linen for four people. Maybe this policy should be reviewed.
The bathroom arrangements were very good, and completely modernised, and with plenty of storage space in the bedrooms. The beds tended to be a little hard compared with our own at home, but perhaps that it "une affaire de gout". The space in the main living room was divided into one area with a large table for dining, and the other had comfortable sofas for relaxing. The large windows gave plenty of light, and, when open, offered plenty of fresh air and, when closed, provided a cosy atmosphere. There was even a view of the sea and part of the bay.
Parking was possible on the drive in front of the house or, optionally, on the drive at the side. There was even space in the main garage for a car, if needed. We did not use it for this, merely access to the house and a place where we could leave outdoor clothes, umbrellas, etc..
We did not use the garden at the rear, having spent much of our time in town or visiting nearby towns. But it is clear that, given good weather, it would be very pleasant eating, playing or relaxing out there.
This is a quaint wee house with some idiosyncrasies in design, for example both bedrooms were accessed through either the bathroom or a separate ensuite toilet. This sounds terrible but as the garden has been designed as part of the living space, all main rooms had patio doors leading outside, which we mostly used for access.
One of the bedrooms is not accessible from the main part of the house, which gave us all a good sense of privacy when needed so again, this was actually a bonus.
The house is well-equipped and comfortable.
It's in a really quiet street (despite the major building work just along the road) and is a very short walk from the beach. The walk into town is lovely as you can go right along the sea-front. Concarneau has a lot going for it and the people were very friendly. There is plenty to see in the centre and there are plenty of restaurants selling lovely seafood and crepes. The local markets have a good range of fresh produce.
We didn't do a lot of travelling but returned to Quiberon and Carnac, having been there in 2001.
The property manager, Cathy, was very helpful and in short, we had a fabulous holiday. I would certainly return!
