We stayed at Vila Cuza over the Christmas & New Year's holiday and really enjoyed our stay. Over the course of two weeks, we had several families staying at the Vila, including up to four children at varying times. The property accommodated us very well, we had ample space. The beautiful property has a pool and enclosed yard and we were less than a minute's walk from a stunning, quiet beach. Edward kept the property well maintained and helped us with anything we needed (fresh beach towels, toys, etc.) Esmerelda & Belkis cooked awesome meals every day and took great care in preparing everything and caring for our rooms. We highly recommend you try local dishes, they were our favorites. Margarido was a quick phone call away and helped us with rides to and from the airport & into town or neighboring beaches. Matty was super helpful in communicating with everyone & helping with recommendations and organizing our transportation & day-to-day activities. We absolutely love Las Terrenas, the beaches are beautiful, clean and El Portillo beach was mostly calm though a bit windy several days. We rented ATV's a couple of days to do some exploring on our own, walked around town, and checked out a few restaurants. We were able to do our own groceries when we wanted to (quick walk to La Bodega for staples or ride into town for a big grocery store, we also got fish/seafood at the fish market). One in our group tried out Kite Surfing down the beach and a few others rented paddleboards at Las Ballenas where we spent a day. We were visited by a sweet coconut hound every day, she became our pet while we visited and would walk with us or just sit with us at the beach or in the yard. This was truly one of our best vacations, a memorable time spent with friends & family and the best way to spend the holidays! We loved that the Vila was screened in to keep the mosquitos out as we did find they came out at night. The Vila is less than an hour from Samana airport and is well equipped for large groups. We felt safe in the gated area, on the beach and in town & noticed the Vila is surrounded by other beautiful homes. There's also a Bahia resort down the beach and while you could faintly hear the music some nights, it was never a bother and they had fireworks on NYE that people could enjoy. We highly recommend this place and would love to visit again.
My family (husband and two kids) stayed there with two other families, and we can honestly say it was one of the best vacations we've ever had. The house is stunning--both open to the air and sunshine, but with an enclosed yard and walls so that you feel sequestered in your very own compound. It's also within an exclusive development and just steps to the beach, which is beautiful and safe, with a private guard. We had six kids with us total and they had a blast in the pool and yard, playing soccer, and on the basketball court, and of course at the beach every day. It was just a very easy, relaxed week. The staff was tremendous and took care of our needs, without being overbearing, and I truly cannot say enough about the owner and how helpful he was from the moment we booked the house until when we got home from our vacation. He's been so responsive on everything from restaurants to rental cars to our NEXT booking (hopefully soon).
The Dominican Republic is a beautiful country, and one we wished we had a chance to explore more, so we definitely plan on returning and will absolutely book this place when we do. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
