Beautiful location in the countryside - peaceful and relaxing. Stephanie and her family have done a fantastic job rebuilding an historic property (with work continuing to further expand). The photo's are spot on, the rooms are well apportioned, the common areas are massive, and the back garden is superb!
We had 13 in our group and never felt crowded (our section section had accommodations for 19). Everyone of us - including the teens and under-25's - thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Central to the Champagne region, close to Reims (under 1 hour) and just over 2 hours to Paris and Brussels, the location is perfect for exploring.
Stephanie is accommodating and quick to respond to email and texts; her English is excellent, so we had no difficulty communicating.
Keep in mind, this is a traditional 16th century castle: lots of stairs, no central air, creaky floors, etc. But it is absolutely charming, every room has an en suite, WiFi is good, outdoor living is perfect.
All of us have already talked about a return trip - we can't wait to see the progress they make on the remaining sections of the castle!
Our week started with a great introduction, tour and briefing on the extremely well equipped and spacious chateau. It has all of the amenities one could ask for. Good high speed wifi, great fireplace, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds. It was a treat having the boulangerie from the next town deliver fresh croissants and a baguette in the morning. (you hang out a bag with your order and money, they leave the goods and change). The grounds are large and well cared for. It is in a quiet area with the only sounds the rushing water of the nearby stream and the faint crowing of a rooster in the morning. Sheep graze in a nearby meadow. We enjoyed traveling into Charleville-Mezzieres for shopping and restaurants. No problems communicating, Verronique and her sister both speak excellent English. Lots of refrigerator space, a small one in the kitchen and a large fridge/freezer in the utility room (where we stored the champagne we bought at a small producer -Carole Noizette in Saint-Thierry). Well stocked with everything-- brochures, a large sewing kit, lots of wine & champagne glasses, etc. We made day trips to Reims, Waterloo, Bastogne, Sedan. We have stayed in a number of rentals both in France and the US and this one ranks among the best.
