It's difficult to sum up in a few sentences the unforgettable, special time we stayed in Florence's chalet. It was our 20 year anniversary and we had been to Chamonix before and wanted to spend more time on our next visit. We stayed a week and had a very hard time leaving. The warmth and hospitality of our wonderful host, Florence, made it that much more difficult when the time came to go home.
First, the location was so convenient for us. She lives in a quiet neighborhood about a 10 minute walk from the pedestrian center of Chamonix. So we were always walking from either our cable cars to the chalet or back and forth for dinner, never needed our car except for farther hiking locations. The chalet was built by a Polish Olympic ski jumper who happened to be a master carpenter and the details in his carvings is astounding. Every door or window has a different scene and you will be discovering new details every day. The garden is a little haven and Florence even brought us fresh lettuce, arugula (rocket), and radishes one evening when we were cooking at home. The bed is very comfortable, double sinks in the bathroom, convection stove, and full size fridge. Everything has been brought up to date for our modern conveniences yet you still have the feel of staying in a very special, historic place.
Then there is the view. From pretty much anywhere in Chamonix you have the incredible views of the Aiguilles, the glaciers, and Mont Blanc. But from Florence's locale they are BOOM! Right in front of you. We never tired of gazing out our window, day or night, to look up to those mighty peaks and the alpenglow will knock your socks off.
Florence will make you feel right at home and she is almost always available but never intrusive. This chalet, the mazot, and a next door house have been in her family for many years and she has some wonderful stories to tell, unfortunately we only got to hear a few of them. Every detail inside of both the chalet and mazot have been so carefully and thoughtfully planned out, it is doubtful you will need anything.
Florence, thank you again for our most wonderful, incredible, memorable stay in your lovely chalet. We loved every minute and hope to be back someday!
Chalet Oscar was an amazing retreat in Chamonix - in a wonderful location, but quiet and off the beaten path. The space itself is large, stylish, cozy, and made for relaxation between adventures. The hosts were great communicators , helpful, and have excellent taste. Thank you!
