  • Great summer home away from the city
    5 of 5

We were looking for a home that was in an area with a lot of outdoor activities close by but not too far away from civilization. This house delivered by being close to great hiking and fishing spots. The house was very clean and had a wonderful variety of kitchen/bath items available for our use. This house is close to Hwy 24 and is about 30 minutes away from Colorado Springs. A grocery store is about 12 minutes away. There are very limited options with regards to any sort of grocery/food delivery and if you need to use Lyft, you usually have to plan for it a few hours in advance. No quick pickups. The neighborhood is very pretty and they have a stocked pond along with a few decent restaurants at the entrance. Also available is a community swimming pool, basketball court, playground and tennis courts. Pike's Peak is 10 minutes away and the Broadmoor is about 25 minutes away. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. If you have 1 or 2 young children, then the house would be very comfortable. We have preteen boys, so it felt a little crowded at times. There is a small side yard but the mountain is directly behind the house so no large area for the kids to play around the house. Our boys were old enough where we felt comfortable letting them ride their bikes down to the pond and open area so they could run around. The owners were always quick to respond and we had no issues with the house at all. They have secured WiFi, a warming drawer, washer/dryer, outdoor grill, house phone and all of the comforts of a modern home. Overall, a fun vacation home for an active couple or family! Thanks so much, David and Pam!

  • Charming place to stay, in the perfect location
    5 of 5

This cabin is on Ruxton Ave, between the cog railway depot (which is closed for a while due to construction of a new depot on the top of Pike's Peak) and the Barr trailhead (for those who would prefer to hike up to the Peak) on one end, and the town center of Maintou Springs on the other. It's very easy to walk to either. It's cozy and was built in the late 1800s but has most of the mod cons including a jacuzzi tub which we used after a day of strenuous hiking. We were amazed at how close this location is to not only the cog railway, the Barr trail, and central Manitou Springs, but also to the Garden of the Gods, and to Colorado Springs itself. Even when we did drive somewhere, such as to Colorado City (original capital of the Colorado Territory, before it was a state, and now a historic district within Colorado Springs), the drive was short and stress free. The shops and restaurants in Manitou Springs were nice but really it's the proximity to all of the beautiful land features and amazing trailheads that we loved about our stay. The most awesome thing we did was Uber up to the summit of Pike's Peak (actually to the shuttle stop, and then shuttled the rest of the way), and then hiked down the Barr trail all the way to the trailhead that is just around the corner from this cabin. It was strenuous but much easier than hiking up, and more achievable for people in moderate physical condition. It's still a 13.5 mile walk from the summit to the cabin, down from 14.1k feet to about 6.5k, but it's do-able. The cabin is perfectly situated for what we wanted to do.
