This is a no frills apartment, so if you like it fancy, this place is not for you. However, the apartment was clean (with the exception of the curtains, which really need changing) and hit all of the buttons. It was an excellent lesson in how few creature comforts a person really needs to be happy. There was a complaint about road noise in another review, but the road noise will be just as bad at the million dollar property next door. If you want to stay on the beachside, there's just not a lot of room between the beach and the road, so road noise is certainly not unique to this property. Earplugs did the trick and we enjoyed very peaceful nights and slept very well. The bed was comfortable and the air-con in the bedroom works great. The water pressure in the shower was quite good. We made breakfast in the cottage every day but I would have not wanted to do extensive cooking in the kitchen. It didn't lack for anything but is quite small. The beach was almost right outside our doorstep, with beautiful views of the flowers arching over the driveway leading to the sea. There is a gate with stairs to your own "private" beach (all beaches in Barbados are public, but this beach is intimate with very little foot traffic other than the neighbors, both guests and locals). The sea directly in front of the stairs has a rocky floor, but there is a sandy entry about 200 feet away with its own small swimming beach where there is no building on the property. At low tide you can walk on the beach or you can also walk the short distance on the roadside. We never saw more than 15 people at a time on this beach, and sometimes there was no one but us. The neighborhood is residential and quiet. There is a grocery store about a 10 minute walk away and Wendy's Sports bar up the hill which was a lovely place to grab a drink and watch the sunset or have a bite to eat. 4 Banks beers for a tenner! The location is convenient to Holetown where there are some nice bars and restaurants including Surfside and Zaccio's and One Love for karaoke on Sunday night is a must! There is some very good shopping here as well and a larger supermarket. There are also a number of excellent restaurants along the road from Fitts Village through Holetown, including Daphne's and Il Tempio. Bridgetown was another short bus ride in the opposite direction. The housekeeper was very nice and helpful as the owner's representative. I would recommend this apartment and would stay here again

The Gingerbread Cottage was better than expected. Close to Holetown but secluded enough to truly enjoy the serenity and beauty of the breathtaking views from the sun porch. My husband and I spent a great deal of time on the porch enjoying the horses in the paddock below or an occasional monkey climbing on the fence or a parrot flying by. The cottage was simply stated, but freshly painted white and the linens smelled so fresh. A beautiful breeze comes through the windows and is so tranquil and never any bugs. The pool was refreshing, clean and always quiet. The homeowners are delightful. Always there if we needed something but never intrusive. This was my first trip to Barbados and it is by far my favorite island and I look forward to going back. I truly cleansed my soul at the Gingerbread Cottage.
