Confirming our reservation required completing a wire transfer with Jude Mein, the villa owner. This took longer and more energy than anticipated. Jude and Glynis Mein, the property owners, are very friendly personable people. We were presented a big bowlful of fresh fruit soon after arrival. It was yummy. Jude was very helpful answering questions and directing us to some good places to eat, swim, and snorkel. Jude was also helpful pointing out some of the local birds that we were interested in as well as answering many questions about the island and its history, wildlife and various other things.
The villa is located about 500m off a main coastal road in a residential neighborhood about 3 km south of the airport. This location facilitated getting around the island in our rented car. The property which included the villa and 2 residences had a wall and gate which left us feeling very safe. We were supplied a gate opener so we could come as go as we pleased.
The villa itself was very adequate for my wife and I. Due to the slope of the property, which is common for residences on the island, there are 3 levels to the villa. Upon entering there is combination dining/living room with a kitchenette. A step up from this area was the bedroom fitted with a queen bed, chest of drawers, clothes cabinet and night stands. The bedroom was roomy, very adequate in size, and air conditioned, a must on the island. Four steps up from the bedroom was the bathroom. It contained a corner shower, toilet, lavatory and mirror above with shelving and storage. It was well lit. Windows that opened were located in all rooms. A washer is available for use on a neighboring porch and clothes are hung out for drying.
During our 8-day stay we were supplied 2 home-cooked meals by the Meins. They were both delicious. We discovered green papaya salad via one of the meals and got the recipe from Jude.
All in all we were quite satisfied with the accommodations, location, and the property owners.
