We could not have enjoyed our stay at Alma Vignoni more! If you are interested in staying here, just book it!!
First off, the property itself is beautiful. It’s just as the pictures suggest, if not better. The unit is well designed, both functionally and aesthetically, and is in perfect condition. It is also very well appointed and has all the staples you’d need for a long stay, including decent cookware and knives.
The location is also hard to beat. Located in the middle of your own (almost- there are 15 residents at most) little hilltop medieval town, you have amazing views of the surrounding country-side. While possible to do this stay with public transit and some walking, I’d recommend a rental car. You’re a short drive away (~8 min) from San Quirco, which has many restaurants, a nice grocery story (Coop), and anything else you’d need. You’re also a shorter drive (3-4 min) away from Bagno Vignoni and it’s ancient thermal spas (check it out). I’d also recommend a 2 min drive to Tenuta Sanoner (winery) for a tasting and some more beautiful views. I’d you’re the hiking or biking type, there are tons of trails nearby (a few go through the village) and there is a bike m (with e-bikes) in Bagno Vignoni. To take a step back, you’re less than a hour drive to Pienza, Montalcino, Trequando, Montepulciano, etc., so you can stay busy for as long as you want. I say this all with the caveat that you need some desire to “get away” to see it with this perspective. If you want to stay in the middle of things with 5 restaurants within a 2-minute walk and plenty of other tourists (or locals) around, this isn’t the spot for you. You are a bit secluded, but that’s the beauty of it.
The hosts were also wonderful- communicative, gave us some local recommendations, and made sure we were taken care of.
We sure hope we’re able to come back and stay at Alma Vignoni again.
Monia, Stefano, girls & dogs,
A five star all the way! You all went way beyond our expectations. Your hospitality will never be forgotten. Much thanks to Stefano meeting us at the train station, helping us get our rental car and treating us to lunch overlooking the beautiful hills of Tuscany. Thank you for our fresh pressed bottle of olive oil and for being in on Steve's plan to propose with surprising us with a bottle of champagne!
And most importantly, thank you for making me realize I needed to stop and enjoy exactly where we were, rather than trying to fit in all in!!!!
This trip will never be forgotten!
All our best,
Meg & Steve
