  • This place oozes with character and charm

I don't think I've ever stayed at a VRBO with more character. As advertised this is a spacious, very old feeling house - creaky floors and all. The bedrooms are all good size and the beds pretty comfortable. The kitchen is spacious and well appointed and easy to prepare meals. The dining room, wow, great big circular room, the pictures don't do it justice. Fabulous place to have coffee in the morning. Good news on the location, it's right next to one of the major roads for Normandy and access to all of the sites including Mont Saint Michelle. The bad news, it's right next to a fairly busy highway that can be a bit noisy in the morning and during the day. The traffic volume does go down quite a bit at night though and no one in my party had issues with night noise and sleep. Also, not in the description there is a real (i.e. American) shower in the same bathroom as the big tub. We had one small maintenance issue during our stay but the property owner/manager was very responsive and the correction was made quickly.

  • A very attractive property in a quiet country location, fully equipped and tastefully furnished.

We spent a most enjoyable 4 weeks at the Apple Barn during May 2018. The property has been renovated to a very high standard and is equipped with all the appliances necessary for a comfortable stay. The standard of decoration and furnishings are to an equally high standard. The house is located in a quiet setting in the heart of the Normandy countryside, yet is reasonably close to the facilities available in Sourdeval, Mortain and Vire and the major attractions including the DDay beaches and museums, the Mont St Michel and many others are within an hours car journey. The area is spoiled with choices of good restaurants, ranging from local gourmand cuisine to more basic, yet interesting, food. We played golf on several courses in the area and would particularly recommend Golf de la Dathee, near Vire. This course presents a real challenge, without being too long, and the scenery adjacent to the lake is really beautiful. Although we did not take advantage of it, there are many rural walkways and cycle routes to hand and the sites of historic interest are well presented and are readily accessible. We were sorry to leave and would unreservedly recommend this property to prospective visitors.
