Bastione Rimembranza: all the houses

  • Beautiful house but challenging location

Having received detailed instructions on the house, its water system and location, we arrived to the house having been afraid that our car would not make it. Staying in the house requires a 4-wheel drive, preferrably a jeep. The house itself is beautiful and the garden is full of herbs and beautiful flowers. The house and kitchen in particular is well equipped and maintained, the water system works well even though it requires attention and study. We would recommend the house for people interested in cooking, and confident drivers who do not mind a very challenging drive from the village. (We did not even try it in the dark.) There is no air conditioning, so people who would need this for health reasons should not consider this house. The location is near Grosseto and many pittoresque villages, we enjoyed daily outings to many destinations in Southern Toscana. In terms of the garden we were expecting a variety of vegetables on the basis of the information from the owner on this site, but perhaps end of July is not a good season because of draught. We were able to cook with the herbs, though. The village has basic services, but we did not find it interesting as a tourist experience. Our overall experience was good, but we were very happy to have full insurance for the car as it was nearly too big for the road. The road conditions were scary when it rained, so we were happy to be there in a season with very little rain.

We spent a wonderful week in this lovely apartment. The apartment was exactly same as it was presented. The village is really beautiful, calm and safe and all people we met, were really friendly. Even though we couldn´t speak nearly at all Italian and most of them couldn´t speak English we didn´t have any problems. The owners gave us a long list of different places where we could go, where eat etc. It was really helpful. The weather was so warm even in the beginning of March that we could enjoy about upper terrance and Tuscany sun in several afternoons. We have already recommended this place to some of our friends who prefer smaller villages than big cities.
