  • Within walking distance of fun but no privacy
    4 of 5

Stayed with another couple. There was no privacy from each other. Every sound was heard by everyone. Even the bathrooms and bedrooms had fluted or clear glass in the doors. Walls didn't even go to the ceiling for either bedroom. We might add well have been staying in one hotel room together. Great location for one couple but not for two. Was awesome to have a parking spo, but almost impossible to get into the spot.

  • Great location, very comfy

This is a very roomy basement apartment under a house that nestles split-level style against the slope. You walk up the driveway, then up the stairs to the left of the garage to the doorway, then down a flight of stairs into the unit. Once inside, it is a big main room, with 2 sofas and a chaise, desk and comfy stools at a table by the window with a view of the city to the north. The bedroom has a super-comfy bed, and plenty of storage. The small bathroom is next door, and then there is a small "kitchen", which has no stove, but has everything you need to cook in the convection microwave. There is an adjacent large laundry room. All these rooms have basement windows with a view of the trees up the hill. It's walking distance (5 blocks) to a pub and Thai place on NW Thurman at NW 28th. And do try the St Honore Bakery at NW Thurman and NW 23rd Pl! The best way to drive there is to access NW Upshur St from NW 25th, then right on NW 29th Ave down to NW Wilson. This is important, because not all the streets go through due to the hills and other reasons. I would stay here again without hesitation on my future visits to Portland.
