Hurricane Michael hit this area on 10/10/18 with winds 150+ and everyone, including businesses, are still struggling with the after effects. Almost every structure was heavily damaged or, in many cases, totally destroyed. We own a home nearby that survived but needs major repairs. Each time we’ve visited we’ve also delivered donations for those still suffering from injury, illness, loss of homes &/or incomes, etc. Many are still digging out from mountains of debris and trying to salvage anything possible. At this time, Kimberly K’s Cottages is one of the few rentals repaired enough to welcome guests. No, there hasn’t been enough time, resources, or energy to fully restore the garden to it’s former glory, nor would the region win any awards for tourist destination right now. BUT, the best is yet to be seen! Ms Kimberly is a charming hostess and it’s obvious that she’s spent endless hours working on her cottages. We planned to arrive near midnight and Ms K offered to pull out, and make up, the sofa bed. Upon our arrival she welcomed us warmly and inquired about our long drive. The cottage was very cute, decorated in beach decor, comfortable and stocked with amenities, too numerous to list, including cold water bottles in the refrigerator. Ms K had also turned on the lights & air conditioning for our arrival. We haul a 12’ trailer (for donations) and are always concerned about parking. Thankfully Ms K has ample parking for guests, extra vehicles, even trailers! This was the quietest place we’ve found that’s close to town and the beds are comfortable memory foam. The storm may have destroyed much, but it revealed the fierce love the locals have for this community. They are working hard preparing for visitors; it also has revealed the visitors who are true lovers of this place known by many names - panhandle, forgotten coast, happy place, etc. Go visit, admire the fortitude & dedication of the locals, go fishing, boating, watch the glorious sunsets, volunteer in recovery efforts, visit a local market, enjoy some awesome seafood. The locals will make you feel like family and will also appreciate the business. Ms K is ready for your visit now and other places are being repaired and readied for future visitors. Reviews are usually only for the rental property, but I wanted to give an overview of the area so visitors are prepared to find the beauty there is now. This is our happy place & we plan to be full-time residents soon!
