  • Choose Kula over Lahaina!
    4 of 5

If you enjoy quiet times away form the crowd, Kula Villa is the place to stay! It it beautiful, comfortable, and you will enjoy the best view in all of Maui. The villa is nicer than depicted on the pictures, with a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable linens, a beautiful lanai, lots of storage for your luggage and a great host. The fridge was filled with basic condiments, which made cooking easier, along with the A-class barbeque. Last time we were in Maui, we stayed in Lahaina, but found Kula more enjoyable and more relaxing. One small caveat: be prepared to live with geckos (and their droppings), as there are plenty of them.

  • Fantastic rental for a family of four or two couples.

The Bird of Paradise Cottage is much more than even the photos and description represent. The cottage is beautifully situated in a calm residential neighborhood in Kihei, immediately adjacent to Wailea. We travel to Maui regularly and have settled on the Maui Meadows neighborhood as our favorite. Calm walks from the cottage give a real feeling of living on Maui, with well kept homes and personal fruit stands, rather than being a tourist at an exorbitant hotel. Ocean views abound as do mountain vistas. The beaches are a quick drive away with easy parking, as is a plethora of shopping and dining. The cottage itself is a cut above many in the area (a high standard already) and is extraordinarily well equipped. Owner Frankie has thought of everything from kitchen needs, bedroom and living comfort items, as well as beach and pool goodies. Frankie is so friendly and generous, always available but never intrusive. She would appear by the pool area with toys for the kids, snacks, and pool items for both fun and safety. The pool area is undersold even with the beautiful pictures. Aside from the cottage itself, the large pool area is set above the cottage some steps away. We LOVED that the pool was not immedately outside the cottage doors, a huge safety factor with our 7 and 4 year olds. The pool is surrounded by the biggest outside kitchen I've seen, with a fully indoor-style kitchen fully equipped AND a large grilling and dining area. Separately is a fire pit deck - best s'mores we've made! For any combo of four people, a real feeling of living on Maui, lacking nothing and surprising in so many positive ways, this is a great find. No exaggeration, and I'm an ordinary traveller writing.
