Serene Country Retreat in the Umbrian HIlls

5 of 5
Arriving at this oasis after a long flight from the U.S. was most welcome! We enjoyed our 2 week stay immensely. The gracious proprietor Anna ensured that our stay was relaxing. Her gifts of wine, lamb chops, olive oil, eggs and abundant cherries from the tree outside our property were luxurious and especially generous. The beautiful property is set on a working farm with chickens, sheep. olive groves, cyprus and vineyards surrounding it. There is a huge, immaculate, shared pool which we enjoyed every evening for a cooling swim after a day of sight seeing in the local hill towns and Rome. The lovely terrace outside of our apartment was great for dinners cooked on our grill. The apartment itself was simply and tastefully furnished with a lovely modern bathroom...(with great shower pressure!). The Kitchen had all of the basics, the beds were very comfortable with beautiful linens. A comfy sofa in the main room. The entire house was immaculately clean. We simply could not have asked for more. While we visited during the summer, I noted a huge working fireplace for the cooler months. What a treat that would be! The property is well situated for day trips to towns such as Orvietto, Narni, Todi, Amelia and Rome is easily accessible for day trips. We took 2 trips to Rome via the Orte station which has continual service to and from the City. Orte is a quick 35 minute drive from the house and Rome is only 40 minutes. What a treat to return to the serene and lovely farm after a hot and tiring day in Rome! The property is also only 10 minutes from the fantastic, bustling town of Giove where you can find: and InCoop grocery store (think wine bargains, delicious breads, cheeses and all the salumi you can eat!), a pharmacy, an amazing cafe, petrol, and an incredible pizzeria that also serves lovely grilled meats on their wood fired oven. (We ate there 3 nights!). We can not wait to return and were so sad to leave! For folks who want to be IN a town and do not like a rural drive (there is a dirt road for 2K to access the property, this would not be for you.) For those who enjoy peace and quiet outside of a conveniently located small town, this would be for you. Do be sure you have good directions or a phone for assistance in locating, as it is off the main highway. WELL worth the trek.

Peaceful, Serene, with many nearby Adventures

5 of 5
We traveled as a group of 8 friends, from Southern Italy to Northern Italy for one month in May, and I would describe our one week stay at this Villa, within view of the Duomo of Oriveto, as being the highlight of our trip. Not only is it located in a breathtakingly beautiful part of the country, but it is perfect for taking day trips and exploring this part of Umbria and its many wonders. All of the sights and activities that we wanted to do were easily accessible from our location with a short drive (all within an hour or less) by car. We wanted to spend time in Orvieto, visiting the beautiful duomo, touring the underground, and seeing the medieval palaces, but we also wanted to explore the region, including Lake Bolsena, go to the hot spring spas, and especially high on our list was to see the crumbling medieval town Civita di Bagnoregio. We rented 2 apartments located in a 200+ year old stone building which has all of the modern conveniences, including a good wi-fi connection and cell phone coverage. The apartments were adjacent, making it easy for a group to visit back and forth. Each apartment had plenty of privacy and were soundproof. The front terrace/decks were wonderful, with outdoor yard furniture, and spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, olive and lemon groves, and of the old hilltop town, Orvieto. In the mornings we would sit out on the terrace, drink our coffee and listen to the birds sing. The grounds consist of several acres. It is peaceful, quiet and the swimming pool is gorgeous (but it was still too cool in May to use it). Daniele, the property caretaker and groundsman, made us feel at home, and was he was always available to assist with any of our needs. The owners of the Villa were extremely hospitable, welcoming us with a bottle of local wine, and provided us with many tips about the surrounding country. n the evenings we would either cook our meals, after shopping at the local Co-op, or fresh produce and meats at the Farmer’s Market, or we would drive the short distance into Orvieto and go out to one of the many fine restaurants. The kitchens were well-stocked with just about anything that you would need, plenty of plates, pots and pans, coffeemaker, and ours even came with spices and homemade olive oil. This property is highly recommended for location, hospitality, and comfort.
