  • Very large property in residential area.

Our family stayed in this villa just for a few days, primarily to explore Barcelona. The Property--The villa is very large, and suitable for large families AND large vehicles. We had a very large vehicle, so the giant garage and gated entrance was perfect for us to avoid parking fees and availability. Both the gate and the garage are setup on wireless access, and require only a cell phone to enter (a key is available also). The villa has multiple levels, and the backyard is also very large with a barbecue, although we really didn't use it since our focus was on Barcelona. The property is also well stocked and clean, and it was nice to have a clothing dryer in addition to a washer, so that we didn't need to wait for clothes to dry on a line, which is common in Spain but uncommon in the U.S. The location--Although we didn't explore the surrounding area too much, we didn't find any groceries within walking distance, but they are available in neighboring towns. The area is very much residential, and there is some nice landscape nearby (I believe it is a golf course), so it wasn't too busy. At first glance, the property is a bit far from Barcelona downtown, probably about a 40 minute drive, which can be either good or bad depending upon the activities a person wants to do. However, we discovered later on our trip to ignore downtown parking and just take the Renfe commuter train in from one of the neighboring towns. It is very inexpensive, particularly if you purchase a 10-trip pass (can be used for more than one person), and you avoid a lot of the headaches in getting to the city, as well as the tolls. The Hosts- Charo and Josep were very good hosts. We had driven down from San Sebastian, and our time of arrival was 6-7 hours later than we planned, but they willingly accommodated us. Also, they provided us texts of sights to see in Barcelona and nearby, including GPS coordinates, most of which we did. Recommended!

  • We would definitely repeat our experience, given the amenities and price (late May, early June)!

Location Pluses: Very quiet neighborhood (98% of the time--see Location Minuses below). Felt at home in the community of El Balco. Yet, close to larger communities and not that far from Barcelona. Location Minuses: Neighbor two doors down (South) played very loud music a couple of times with heavy beat. Not a show-stopper :). Indoor Pluses: Just felt like home. Comfortable beds. Had stove plus oven for cooking besides microwave--definitely a positive. Plenty of space for our needs. Indoor Minuses: WiFi not connected, thus unavailable. Only one small bathroom in house. Only a shower--would have been nice to have a bathtub. Additional bathroom in room adjacent to poolside was used 'for emergencies' :). Hot water for shower started out cold for a couple of minutes, then hot for only 30 seconds, then cold again for a couple of minutes, then stayed hot for a quite adequate time. Took several days of very short (30 second) showers before learning to wait for a second couple of minutes of cold water for it to get hot the second time. No mosquito screens, so be prepared for mosquito bites during the night if you leave the windows open. Living room furniture a bit worn such that it became uncomfortable to sit on the couch or chairs for a lengthy period of time, but not a 'show-stopper' :). Outdoor Pluses: Very large backyard (two tiers) and well maintained. Pool was great. View is great. Off-street parking space was excellent. Outdoor Negatives: The driveway gate was a bit inconvenient to unlock to drive in (or drive out), and then lock again. Would be nice if it were automatic. Not a show-stopper :). Catalunya Casas: Wonderful, wonderful people and organization. Very helpful. Very thankful to them!!!
