  • the perfect getaway country cottage in town

We feel lucky to have found Cobden's cottage as staying there was such a pleasant experience! Just behind the High St (Fore St) is this perfect little getaway - quiet and a convenient one minute walk to the local shops in this attractive (and active) fishing village. The double high windows in the main living area give the the impression of a large and airy space that looks out to the deck, garden and the the neighbouring garden lots, which of course are tended and growing vegetables and flowers. Sitting outside in the evening with its view of the town rooftops is a bonus. Perfect for two, fine for 4 (we were 4 adults) with two new, clean bathrooms. Comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen that doesn't lack anything meant we could cook at home as well as eat out. We didn't have much time for TV but it's all there. The second (downstairs) bedroom has two single beds. Welcoming, helpful and friendly, our hosts provided a very comfortable relaxed base for our visit to Devon. Thank you Sue and Jon for kindly helping out with our luggage that had gone astray!

  • A simply beautiful spot!

The Byre is a lovely space in a gorgeous area. Comfy beds, friendly hosts, pheasants wandering around in the yard. We really appreciated the apple cake and other treats, along with the suggestions for walks and places to eat in the area. We hope to have a chance to come back someday! One suggestion: we would have been grateful to have salt and pepper and maybe a cooking oil provided, since it’s tough to buy those in small enough amounts for just a few days. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!
