Alessandra offers a large two bedroom apartment with a huge outdoor space overlooking the sea and Gran Sasso mountains. The modern kitchen is fully equipped for cooking. We took advantage of the clothes washer so we could return home with all clean clothes after a weeks stay. The bedrooms are quite comfortable and open directly onto the covered patio. There is one very large bathroom with sink, shower, toilet, bidet.
The apartment is accessed from a narrow street near the Belvedere gate of Montepagano. You can drive directly to the apartment to unload baggage (pull in your mirrors) but parking is outside the wall at the bottom of the Belvedere gate a 2 minute walk away.
The town of Montepagano dates from 1200 and has bits of it original wall remaining. The town sits at 290m above the seaside town of Roseto degli Abruzzo. We stayed during the Vino al Burgo, Montepagano's annual wine festival that brings the sleepy village to life with scores of local wine makers and food vendors. There was also a Jazz festival later in the week.
There is also a very nice town museum just off the main square. My wife's grandparents immigrated from here in the early 1900's, so we found this to be a good way to learn about the town at the time of their immigration.
The location is ideal for exploring Montepagano on foot and you are just a 10 minute drive to some of the best beaches in Italy. Montepagano is 2.5 hour drive from Rome and just about 30 minutes north of Pescara. The Gran Sasso National Park is close by and offers beautiful scenic views.
Alessandra is a wonderful host with a vast knowledge of the area. She will make you feel very welcome in her charming apartment. Thank you for a wonderful week!
