Houlgat is a lovely place for relaxing stay - Long beach, Belle Époque houses, seafood market. This apartment is one of the best choices - comfortable, well decorated, sea view, 2 steps to the beach, nice balcony. Apartment had everything we needed, including all types of dinnerware. We enjoyed our stay a lot! The host is super nice!
This is a reasonably priced property with an absolutely perfect location. It is fairly modern: no air conditioning but you won't need it here. It is well sized for a couple; if you have 3-4 people, you'll be folding out the sofa bed which would tend to make it a little bit cramped. There is a fully equipped and applianced kitchen. (The washer/dryer set no speed records for getting clothes dry; it is good for someone who is travelling and needs a relatively small load.) The kitchen and bathroom are clean and in good shape. (The toilet is separate, but that's how things frequently are in France -- that's why they call it a "water closet", perhaps?)
The common areas of the building could use some improvements, as the lights in the corridors are on timed switches and you fumble around turning them on. The garage is not a good place to put a larger car -- in June, this wasn't a problem as parking on the street was easy. Think twice before renting a big car, American style (you'll save a ton of money on gas anyway).
Did I mention the ocean view from the deck? It's fantastic, and you also get a great view out the bedroom window. The beach is a few steps away if you want to experience swimming in the English Channel. There are a few places to eat along the promenade, and a much larger collection just outside the Cabourg Grand Hotel/Casino area, an easy walk from this property.
The woman who handled arrival and departure was very nice. She doesn't speak English, so this is a good chance to practice up on your French -- mine actually held up (even without Google Translate!) and she was very nice and was quite helpful. (The owner is friendly and responsive, but lives in Paris.)
All in all, I'd definitely recommend this for a couple looking for a nice stay.
