What support is available for the Developer API?
The HomeAway Developer API is community supported. We encourage users to post in the HomeAway Developer API forum if they have questions, bugs, answers, or even general feedback.
How much does it cost to use the Developer API?
The HomeAway Developer API open tier is free to use within the limits of the HomeAway Developer API terms and conditions.
What are your SLAs for the API?
The HomeAway Developer API open tier has a best effort SLA.
How do I report a bug?
Please report any bugs in the HomeAway Developer API forum and our engineers will look into and post updates as we investigate.
How do I tell if the service is up?
We will report any outage information in the HomeAway Developer API forum.
How do I learn about changes and updates to the API?
If we do any major updates or add new features to the HomeAway Developer API we will email all registered developers about the updates before they go live. We will also post on the HomeAway Developer API forum.
How does the Developer API benefit developers?
The HomeAway Developer API provides access the world's largest Vacation Rental Marketplace through an enterprise grade API that is built on the same technology that powers www.homeaway.com. The HomeAway Developer API provides the gateway to co-create new and disruptive applications for HomeAway users and the Vacation Rental industry as a whole.
Can I charge people to use my app?
Yes. There are no restrictions on what you can charge people to use your app, as long as it does not violate the HomeAway Developer API terms and conditions.
What are the throttle limits of the API?
Currently, all clients in the open tier will be throttled to 60 requests over a one minute interval.
What are the throttle limits based on? (OAuth, client ID, etc.)
Throttle limits are tied to your client's OAuth id. This means that any request with a token tied to that id (this includes user-based tokens) will count towards that one minute interval.
What information is collected by HomeAway?
The HomeAway Developer API collects reservation, listing, and owner inbox data.
How do users discover my Apps?/Will HomeAway market my app?
You may market your app in accordance with the HomeAway Developer API terms and conditions.
Can I use the HomeAway brand to market my App?
We are currently working on a number of exciting ways to integrate HomeAway Developer API apps to our users. Stay tuned for more details.
What information is available through the API?
The HomeAway Developer API provides a programmatic way to access the listing data that is publically available on www.homeaway.com. In addition, if a HomeAway user grant you permission, you may access a limited set of his/her private HomeAway information, such as upcoming reservations.
I don't have an owner account with HomeAway. How can I test my application's functionality with a logged-in owner?
To accommodate developers with no owner accounts to test with, we have provided a 'test mode' for developers to be able to test their apps with a logged-in owner. For more information on how test mode works, please refer to the HomeAway Developer API documentation.
What personal HomeAway user data are you providing in the HomeAway Developer API?
Unless you grant explicit permission for a particular application to access your data, HomeAway does not provide any private user information to third parties via the HomeAway Developer APIs. You may grant access to a third party app to access your user information, and it is up to you to decide if you'd like to do so.
As an owner/traveler, how do I stop an app from accessing my data once I've granted access?
To remove an apps permission to access your data, visit the App Manager page and follow these instructions.
Click the checkbox next to the app you would like to revoke permissions from.
Click on the Update Permissions button
This app just asked if they can access my HomeAway account, should I grant access to an app? What data will they have access to? What data can they change?
You may grant access to a third party app to access your user information,and it is up to you to decide if you'd like to do so. If you grant access, the following table outlines what data the app is able to access:
