Two of the most popular beaches in Key Largo are located at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park: Cannon Beach and Far Beach. If you're looking for a beach where you can relax, catch some rays, and enjoy the water, Far Beach is your best bet. Cannon Beach is more interesting; there's a 17th century cannon located right on the beach and just 100 feet offshore is the remnants of a shipwreck. The waters here are calm and great for young children. You'll find for your convenience changing rooms, picnic tables, barbecues, and restrooms. These two beaches will definitely top your list for top Key Largo beaches.
In the park, other activities are available in addition to swimming. Fishing is allowed in designated locations within the park. Snorkeling, scuba diving, and glass bottom tours are given to visitors of the park who want to see more of the wildlife. These tours last for a couple of hours and for the snorkeling and scuba diving tours, equipment rentals are available. You can also rent canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats.
Other than Far Beach and Cannon Beach, there are a few small beaches in the area that you can check out. Founder's Park, close to mile marker 87, has a small beach with a few palm trees, some picnic tables, and restrooms. One great thing about this beach is that often you may find that you're the only ones there depending on when you head out to this beach.
Harry Harris Park, found at mile marker 93, also has a small beach. Here you'll find a swimming area that is roped off, a playground for the kids, picnic tables, restrooms, and a boat ramp. The best part is this beach is free on weekdays. Many visitors to this park consider it one of the top Key Largo beaches because of all of the activities nearby. There is definitely something for everyone in the family.
At mile marker 73, you'll find Anne's Beach, named after Anne Eaton, a local environmentalist. This beach has two parking lots about a quarter mile apart from each other. Those who know the area well know that if you follow the boardwalk in between the parking lots, you'll find five covered pavilions as well as stretches of beach that are secluded.
