Celebrity Getaways

In spite of the economic slump, celebrities are still highly unlikely to spend their vacations at run of the mill vacation destinations like average Americans. As a result, they continue to choose the very best resorts, villas, retreats, and islands money can buy.

The Most Expensive Celebrity Getaways

Naturally, property owners benefit big time when celebrities bless them with their presence at beachfront homes in Ibiza or chalets in Gstaad.  First, they can to charge a higher price per night if they choose to do so. Then they can advertise it as celebrity getaway afterward and continue to cash in. Here are a few prime examples.

1. MTV's Jersey Shore House
   Cost: $2,500 per night

Appeal: Stay at Snooki’s party house

Jersey Shore Vacation House Rental
You can rent the house, but you have to supply your own party girls.

The house featured in the hard-partying, smack-talking TV show Jersey Shore can now be rented…for a steep price. According to TMZ, rental requests for the 3,200 square foot abode skyrocketed after the cast members moved out.

The internationally renowned fun house has six bedrooms, three bathrooms and a permanent place in entertainment trivia. According to the owner, even the legendary duck phone and most of the original furniture from the show can still be found in the home.

Even though you won’t get to hang out with The Situation, Snooki, and the gang, the price tag is reasonable given the home’s role in pop culture history and prime location.

2. Mick Jagger’s Lair
    Cost: $22,000 a week

Appeal: Pure luxury, with Grammy Awards on the mantle

Mick Jagger Mustique Vacation Home Rental
Mick Jagger knows all about the good life!

Classic rocker Mick Jagger has not one, but two villas on Mustique, a private island in the Caribbean. His beachfront villa, a Japanese style abode, is known as "Stargroves," and rents for a hefty $22,000 a week during peak season. With six bedrooms for up to ten guests, the villa also has a full-time staff of six to pamper them.

The bedrooms are divided among four separate pavilions. The master suite is set on the beach by itself, and includes a sitting room and a bay-view bedroom. In 2006, Jagger bought the three-bedroom, three-bath estate right next door, dubbing it “Pelican Beach” and made it available for a more manageable $7,000 per week.

3. Necker Island
   Cost: $54,500 per week
   Appeal: Complete solitude, famous guests

Necker Island Vacation Rental Richard Branson
It’s named “Necker Island.” We'll pass on the easy laugh.

Richard Branson, billionaire and owner of the Virgin companies, owns a 74-acre island near St. Thomas, named Necker Island. Luckily, this piece of heaven is available for rent to whoever can afford it for a week or longer.

For your convenience it is staffed with a water sports crew for lessons in snorkeling, kayaking, and kite-surfing. The island will accommodate as many as 28 guests in single villas. Celebrities like Mariah Carey, Oprah, Jay-Z, and Beyoncé rent the entire island. Maybe they just want to avoid lurking paparazzi.

On Necker, guests are outnumbered by staff, and received only the finest service, as well as gourmet food from their private chef. Guests can enjoy a simple lobster lunch with fresh tropical fruit at the island's pagoda, or a snack in the pool's floating dining room – or use the formal 26-seat dining room with its crystal, linens, silver and lace. There is nothing second-rate on Branson's isle.

4. Obama’s “Winter White House”

   Cost: $3,500 a night

Appeal: Rest your head in the same place as the head of your nation

President Obama Winter White House Vacation Rental Kailua Hawaii

Stay on the Windward Coast of Oahu in sunny little Kailua, only an half hour from the President’s childhood Honolulu home. Only $75,000 a month, this retreat is affordable for most kings and Hollywood royalty.

With five bedrooms and five and a half baths, this place can sleep up to ten (wealthy) travellers. With 4,951 square feet, this home feels large even with a large group of people inside. Don’t even think of booking for this summer, though: July & August are nearly booked solid, already!

Though past renters have elected to keep their names private, one can easily imagine who would shell-out 75K to stay in the President’s Hawaiian White House. Frankly, the lagoon-styled pool and private waterfalls would be reason enough to visit Kailua!
